Radiology Technician (Rad Tech) - Travel Position

Location: Woodstock, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Summary

Perform radiologic examinations and procedures on patients of all ages, including neonate, child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric.
Required experience with C-arm imaging equipment.
Manage patient flow efficiently by multitasking and organizing exam schedules to minimize wait times.
Provide patient-centered care respecting autonomy, cultural, gender, and age differences.
Explain procedures and obtain patient consent prior to exams.
Review physician orders for medical necessity and clinical indications.
Utilize hospital information systems (HIS, RIS, PACS) to accurately document exams, patient data, and imaging studies.
Comply with institutional policies, safety protocols, infection control guidelines, and national patient safety goals.
Participate in ongoing professional development and assist in training students and new personnel.

Required Qualifications

Valid Radiology Technologist license in Virginia
Minimum of 2 years of Radiology Technologist experience, including experience within the last year
ARRT (R) Registered Radiologic Technologist certification
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
Experience as an X-Ray Technician

Work Schedule

Shift: Saturday, Sunday & Monday, 9:45 AM – 10:15 PM (three 12-hour day shifts)
Weekend Requirement: Every Saturday and Sunday
On-Call: None

Additional Information

Dress Code: Caribbean Blue scrubs; adherence to facility dress code policy required.

Pros

Traveler friendly, friendly staff in general, low patient:nurse ratios (1:5 - 6). Shift manager helps with admissions, which is super nice.

Cons

Critical access hospital, so very small (24 beds); large number of homeless and psych population end up getting thrown here and taking up beds. Security does not help at all. They just show up and watch. RNs are called off regularly. You better have a limit written in your contract. My unpaid limit was 3 per 13 weeks, and I used them all, every contract. I renewed my contract once. Wouldn't recommend working on the "step-down" side, as you may have vent patients for up to 24 hours. There are a lot of night admissions and day shift discharges.
