Job Details

• Specialty: Medical Surgical
• Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM)
• Hours per week: 36
• Unit: Lone medical-surgical unit in a community hospital
• Patient population: Patients admitted from OR, ED, or downgraded from ICU/PCU
• Average admits: 8-12 per 24-hour period
• Patient ratio goal: 5:1 (flexing to 6:1 may occur)
• Float: Possible to ICU/PCU or ED holds for medsurg patients every other week (not common)
• Holiday coverage: Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Indiana
• Minimum 2 years of experience in Medical Surgical and/or Telemetry nursing
• Recent experience in Medical Surgical and/or Telemetry nursing within the last year
• BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Required Documentation & Compliance

• Valid Driver’s License or Passport (clear copy)
• Background check within 90 days including 7 years of residence/work history, SSN trace, county/state/national checks, sex offender registry, FACIS Level III, education verification
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
• Official transcript or diploma (may be pending at start if needed)
• Education verification by third party (may be pending at start if needed)
• State license verification online within 30 days of start
• Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required
• Unit competency exam required
• Color blind testing (Ishihara or equivalent) with 100% minimum score
• Physical exam within 12 months of start
• Fit mask test within 12 months (approved respirators only)
• Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months (no instant tests)
• Immunizations and titers required:

  • Rubeola (Measles): Positive titer or 2 vaccines (no declinations)
  • Mumps: Positive titer or 2 vaccines (no declinations)
  • Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines (no declinations)
  • Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines (no declinations, history not accepted)
  • Hepatitis B: Series, titer, or signed declination required
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap: Preferred but not required
• TB test (PPD, QuantiFERON-TB Gold, or T-SPOT) within 1 year of start; if positive, chest x-ray and proof of positive history required
• Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required for flu season (9/30 - 3/31); declinations not accepted
• HIPAA and facility-specific compliance forms must be completed prior to start
• Minimum of 2 professional references from recent employment verified within 2 years; references must be from charge nurses, managers, supervisors, or above

• Must be willing to work required holidays

• Float assignments are rare but possible every other week
• This is a community hospital setting with a busy medical-surgical unit
