NICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Portland, Oregon
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Overview
- Work in a Level 4 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) with 46 beds, caring for critically ill, convalescing, and growing premature and term newborns.
- Patient admissions include high-risk perinatal cases and transports from multiple states.
- Family-centered care approach with access to specialists in endocrine, pulmonary, genetics, renal, metabolic, ophthalmology, neurology, pediatric surgery, and cardiothoracic surgery.
- Teaching hospital environment with opportunities to participate in education of students and pediatric residents.
Schedule
- Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM)
- Weekend work required
- No call required
- Floating within the hospital required; no floating to other hospitals
- Block scheduling accommodations generally not available
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Oregon
- Minimum 2 years of Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) experience, with NICU experience within the last year
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
Compliance and Onboarding Requirements
- Valid government-issued photo ID required on first day
- Background check within 6 months prior to start, including education and work history verification, international searches if applicable, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, and national sex offender search
- Drug testing: Negative 10-panel with methamphetamines listed, within 3 months prior to start
- Physical exam not required for this specialty but must meet Aya Healthcare standards (within 1 year)
- Fit mask testing required within 1 year prior to start (must be completed through agency, not onsite)
- Immunizations/vaccinations or signed declinations required for:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
- Measles (Rubeola)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B
- Varicella
- Seasonal Flu (deadline December 1, 2025)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 12 months required, with TB questionnaire
- Completion of facility-specific compliance modules prior to start, including:
- Information Privacy and Security Essentials
- Integrity Foundations
- Harassment Prevention Fundamentals
- Glucometer 2026 and Omnicell Nurse Patient Care Training (exemptions apply)
- Vocera Badge Training for inpatient RNs
- Professional appearance policy must be reviewed and signed prior to start
- Facility-specific documents and attestations (e.g., Coronavirus Protocol Attestation) must be reviewed and signed

- Return-to-Work restrictions: maximum 1 week
- Charting system: EPIC
- Facility is a Magnet hospital, Level I Trauma Center, and teaching hospital
- Scrubs provided for OR; no prints on scrubs
- Parking cost approximately $16 daily
