Job Description
- Position in Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)
- Night Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
- Care for patients including epilepsy monitoring and specialized care for all ages up to 25 years
- Must work at least every other holiday
- Orientation includes ECG rhythm recognition test and medication safety exam (SafeMedicate) with required passing scores
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Ohio
- Minimum 1.5 years of Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) experience, including experience within the last year
- Current certifications issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience working with pediatric patients, including epilepsy monitoring
- Experience with inotropes
Licensure & Certifications
- Ohio RN license or compact state license in hand before start
- AHA or American Red Cross certification for BLS, ACLS, and PALS (RQI acceptable)
- Additional certifications preferred but not required:
- NIH Stroke Certification
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) – not required for PICU
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) – required for ER, not PICU
Health & Compliance Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming ability to perform essential job functions
- Fit mask test (N95) within 12 months, updated annually
- Immunizations and titers required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (every 10 years)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray (annual updates)
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccinations or positive titers
- Hepatitis B vaccination or titer or declination
- Varicella vaccination or titer
- Seasonal flu vaccination (declinations not accepted; exemptions require approval)
- Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months, updated annually (instant drug screens not accepted)
- Eye exam (Snellen) within 1 year of start
Background & Documentation
- Government-issued photo ID required
- Background check including FCRA compliant 7-year search, updated annually
- FBI and state fingerprinting within 12 months, updated annually
- Education verification required
- Employment application with at least 3 years prior work history including 2 years clinical acute care experience in a similar specialty
- Two professional references from within one year of start (manager, supervisor, charge nurse, or director)
Additional Information
- Candidates must complete facility-specific online training modules prior to start
- Modules must be completed on a computer using Google Chrome; video content must be viewed before testing
- Candidates with breaks in employment longer than 6 months may need to repeat orientation modules
- Candidates must pass baseline competency exams during orientation (medication administration and ECG interpretation)
- Traveler must be prepared to work holidays at least every other holiday
Prior Travel Experience
- Travel experience in pediatric nursing is acceptable to meet the 18-month pediatric experience requirement
- No explicit requirement for prior travel contracts beyond this noted
