Job Opportunity: Medical Surgical Registered Nurse (RN)

Location: Florence, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Specialty: Medical Surgical RN (Renal)
  • Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM)
  • Patient Ratio: 1 nurse to 6-7 patients
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend, including holiday rotation
  • On-Call: Not required
  • Floating: Required to float within scope to other med/surg units as needed
  • Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks
  • Local Radius: 60 miles (locals not accepted)

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in South Carolina
  • Minimum 1 year of Medical-Surgical nursing experience within the last year
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Background Checks:
    • Annual background check covering all locations lived/worked in the past 7 years
    • Includes SSN trace, statewide and national criminal checks, sex offender registry, FACIS 3, and international searches
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
  • Education Verification: Not required for this facility
  • References: Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
  • Performance Evaluation: Must be dated within 12 months of start
  • Employment Application: Complete application or resume required
  • Work History Verification: Not required for this facility
  • Photo for Badge: Passport-style photo with solid light background, frontal view only
  • Assignment Acknowledgment, Code of Conduct, Confidentiality Agreements, HR Policy Manual, Systems User Agreement, User Access Request, Job Description, HIPAA Confidentiality Agreement: All must be reviewed and/or signed prior to start
  • Orientation: Completion of facility-specific orientation modules (approx. 4 hours) prior to start; failure to complete results in being sent home
  • COVID Vaccination: Not required but highly preferred; vaccination records must be uploaded or a vaccination declination form completed
  • Flu Vaccination: Required during flu season (Aug 1 – Mar 31); medical/religious exemptions accepted but no declinations; documentation must be uploaded by December 5 deadline
  • Drug Testing: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start; no instant tests accepted
  • Physical Exam: Initial and annual physical exam attesting ability to meet job demands
  • Immunizations & Titers:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap within 10 years or declination form
    • Negative TB test (2-step PPD or Quantiferon Gold within 90 days; T-spot not accepted) or chest X-ray if positive
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines; boosters required if low titer
    • Hepatitis B: Titer or vaccine series; boosters or declination accepted if low/non-reactive
    • Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines; boosters required if low titer
  • Respirator Clearance: Annual medical clearance required for respirator use via virtual questionnaire
  • Medication/Pharmacology Competency Exam: Required as applicable
  • Competency Exam: Required
  • Radiation Badge: Not required for this position/unit

  • Scheduling: Block schedule accommodation requests can be made but are not guaranteed

  • Hurricane Season: June through November; employees may be assigned to emergency response teams during this time
  • Floating: May be required to float to other med/surg units within scope

This position is ideal for RNs with at least one year of experience in medical-surgical nursing, who hold a valid SC or Compact RN license, and are comfortable with a day shift schedule including weekend rotations and floating within med/surg units. Compliance with extensive background checks, immunizations, and facility-specific documentation is mandatory.
