Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Frederick, Maryland
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Provide obstetric care for patients who are 20+ weeks pregnant through 6 weeks postpartum.
  • Work in a unit with 14 Labor & Delivery rooms, OB Triage, OB ORs, and OB PACU.
  • Facility has 5 new rooms equipped with modern technology focused on comfort, safety, and family-centered care.
  • Rotating weekends and holidays required; no call and no block scheduling.

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Maryland.
  • Minimum 3 years of Labor and Delivery nursing experience, including experience within the last year.
  • Completion of at least one travel nursing assignment.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Certifications required:
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Red Cross or American Heart Association
    • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
    • Active fetal monitoring certification (EFM).

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID must be carried during hours of service.
  • Proof of E-Verify or attestation required.
  • Background checks including 7-year criminal history, SS trace, counties, nationwide, sex offender registry, and education verification.
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated with contract renewals.
  • Education verification (high school diploma, GED, or college degree; certificates not accepted).
  • NURSYS verification required for RN license.
  • Physical exam attesting ability to meet physical demands (initial and updated annually).
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, with specific protocols for two-step PPD or alternatives.
  • Drug screening: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start (instant/rapid acceptable).
  • Immunizations and titers required:
    • Tdap (no declination allowed)
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (2 vaccines or positive titer with boosters if low titer)
    • Hepatitis B (series or positive titer; no declinations accepted)
    • Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer with boosters if low titer)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 – Apr 30).

Testing & Competency Requirements

  • Pass/fail testing including:
    • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (must pass within two attempts).
    • Medication/pharmacology competency exam.
    • Orientation and facility-specific net learning modules (4-5 hours, must be completed 1 week prior to start, minimum 80% score required).
  • Facility will provide login information for required modules after contract signing.
  • Candidates must complete all required exams and modules to start orientation.

Additional Notes

  • Photo for badge must be submitted in JPEG format; no nose rings allowed in photo.
  • Fit mask testing required prior to start (specific mask types mandated).
  • Attendance and punctuality expectations must be reviewed and signed prior to start.
  • Proof of 2 clinical references within the last 12 months required.
  • Employment application and skills checklist must be completed and updated annually.
  • No call required; rotating weekends and holidays are mandatory.

This position offers the opportunity to work in a well-equipped Labor & Delivery unit with a supportive environment focused on family-centered care. Prior travel experience and strong L&D skills are essential.
