MS/Tele Float

Overview

• Travel/Contract RN role in Wilmington, North Carolina.
• This is an ED Holding support position located in the float pool.
• The unit cares for adult medical/surgical patients waiting for an inpatient bed; travelers may also take PCU-level patients.
• Travelers are expected to take MS/Tele cases and float to ED and MedSurg areas as needed.
• Night shift, 36 or 48 hours.
• Target ratios: 1:6 for MS/Tele or 1:4 for PCU-level patients.
• Every other weekend required.
• RTO after booking is not allowed; RTO on unit may result in cancellation and DNR.
• Contract length is 13 weeks, with a hard stop through February 27, 2027.

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in North Carolina.
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing.
• Telemetry PCU - Progressive Care Unit experience within the last year.
• Telemetry PCU - Progressive Care Unit experience with 2 years of experience.
• One completed travel assignment.
• BLS issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
• ACLS issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
• Med Surg / Telemetry experience.
• Must pass EKG testing prior to start.
• MS/Tele skills, including interpretation and management of dysrhythmias.
• Telemetry monitoring on the unit and remote monitoring.
• Use of Rapid Response Teams.
• Colostomy care.
• Feeding tube care and management.
• Renal failure care.
• Blood product administration.
• Peripheral line care/management.
• Phlebotomy.
• PICC line management.
• Heparin.
• Insulin.
• Isolation precautions.
• Chest tubes-Emerson/Pleur-evac.
• CPAP/BiPAP.
• High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC).
• Interpretation of ABGs.
• Nasal cannula.
• Non-invasive airway management.
• Oral suctioning.
• Oxygen face masks.
• Portable oxygen tank.
• Tracheostomy management.

• NIHSS.
• IV insulin protocols.
• Pre/Post Hemodialysis Management.
• Accessing Ports.
• Central line blood draw.
• Starting IVs.
• CVA.
• Pre/Post Neuro Surgery.
• Spinal cord injuries.
• Traumatic Brain injury.
• Ortho trauma.
• Total Joint Replacements.
• Wound Care/Wound Vac.

Unit Details

• EDIP is the inpatient holding area located within the Emergency Department.
• Mixed unit with high acuity patients.
• Standard equipment includes cardiac monitors, IV pumps, and other monitoring systems.
• Medication/documentation/communication systems: Pyxis, Epic, SBAR.
• Manager schedules.
• Unit orientation is 12 hours.
• Navy scrubs.
