Cath Lab Registered Nurse - Travel/Contract
Location: Placerville, California
Shift: Day (5x8 hours), 6:45 AM – 3:15 PM
Hours per Week: 40
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Work as a Cath Lab RN with focus on diagnostic cardiac catheterization and electrophysiology procedures.
- First-time travelers are welcome; however, 2 years of specialty experience is required.
- Key skills include:
- Diagnostic Cardiac Cath Lab procedures
- Electrophysiology (EP) Lab
- Adult diagnostic catheterizations
- Exercise and pharmacological stress tests
- Intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) placement/removal
- Left and right heart catheterization
- Pacemaker/defibrillator lead extraction and insertion
- Transesophageal echocardiogram (TEE)
- Cardioversion
- Procedural sedation administration and monitoring
- Radiation and laser safety
- Infection prevention and isolation precautions
- Sheath removal and monitoring
- Obtaining 12-lead EKG/ECG
- Use of emergency medications, antiarrhythmics, antihypertensives, dobutamine, thrombolytics
- Circulate and scrub procedures
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in California
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum 2 years of Cardiac Cath Lab experience, including experience within the last year
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
- Harassment Prevention Training Certificate
- Experience in Electrophysiology (EP) Lab
- Proficient in diagnostic adult catheterizations
- Experience with exercise and pharmacological stress tests
- Skilled in intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) placement and removal
- Experience with left and right heart catheterization
- Proficient in pacemaker/defibrillator lead extraction and removal
- Skilled in scrub procedures
- Experience with transesophageal echocardiogram (TEE)
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID).
- Background checks including 7-year search, sex offender registry, and annual EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks.
- Physical exam within 1 year prior to start, cleared without restrictions, including latex allergy self-assessment.
- Fit test for PAPR or 3M N95 mask within 1 year.
- Immunizations and titers:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap within 10 years (or TD within 2 years).
- Negative TB test (PPD, Quantiferon Gold, or T-Spot) within 1 year; if positive history, chest x-ray and symptom review required.
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) proof of immunity or vaccination per birth year guidelines.
- Hepatitis B titer, vaccination series, or declination.
- Varicella immunity by titer, vaccination, or history of chickenpox.
- 10-panel drug screen within 1 year of start.
- Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season (Nov–April); mask required if declining.
- COVID-19 vaccination preferred but not required as of January 2025.
- Harassment prevention training certificate, updated every 2 years.
- Facility-specific training and competency exams including medication/pharmacology competency, age-specific competency, stroke education, and HIPAA/EMR confidentiality training with handwritten signature.
- Passport-style photo for badge (color, recent, professional attire, no filters or selfies).
- Completion of facility-specific forms including parking registration, temporary worker education, and automated shortage request form.
- References: Two professional work references required.
Additional Notes
- Candidates must submit Return to Office (RTO) documentation upfront.
- Orientation attendance and completion of required facility-specific classes and exams are mandatory.
- Candidates should bring copies of stroke certification and post-test evaluations to orientation.
- Candidates will not be paid for attending certain facility-required classes but may obtain CEU credits for a fee.
This position offers an opportunity to work in a specialized cardiac catheterization lab environment with a comprehensive set of procedural responsibilities and certifications required to ensure patient safety and quality care.
