Registered Nurse (ER Float Pool) – Colorado Springs Zone 1
Location
- Based in Colorado Springs, CO area, covering a 60-mile radius zone including multiple hospitals within Zone 1.
- Must float to various emergency departments within the zone, including facilities up to 46 miles away.
- No home base facility; floating throughout the zone is required regardless of housing location.
Contract Details
- Contract length: 13 weeks
- Shift: Days
- Hours per shift: 12 hours
- Hours per week: 36 hours
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
- Holiday requirement: Every other holiday
- Scheduling: Schedules released 4–6 weeks in advance; may be assigned to a single facility for the week or receive Just-In-Time (JIT) assignments 1–2 hours before shift start.
- Orientation: 2-3 days unit/department specific orientation; clinicians must be in-state for orientation week even if some modules are remote.
Unit and Patient Care
- Unit: Emergency Room (ER) Float Pool
- Trauma Level: Varies by facility (mostly Level 3 and one Level 4)
- Facilities are majority STEMI receiving and Stroke centers.
- Patient volume: 40-168 patients per day depending on location.
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4-5 based on acuity.
- Common patient diagnoses: Abdominal pain, diabetes mellitus, NSTEMI, pneumonia, trauma, stroke, hypertension.
- Common medications: Standard ER drips and medications.
- ER environment: Mixed holding areas, no separate psych/seclusion rooms, no monitor techs (RNs interpret telemetry strips).
- Respiratory Therapy available 24/7; RNs may troubleshoot respiratory equipment.
- Phlebotomy: RNs will be trained and expected to perform point-of-care lab testing.
- Support staff: Techs assist with unit secretary duties, nursing support, and triage assistance.
- Charge nurse present and takes assignments.
Required Qualifications
- Must have at least 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience.
- Certifications required:
- ACLS (AHA)
- BLS (AHA)
- PALS (AHA)
- NIHSS
- TNCC
Additional Information
- Dress code: Navy blue scrubs.
- Floating requirement: Must float within the entire Zone 1 ERs.
- Radius requirement: Must be able to travel within a 60-mile radius of the zone’s city center.
- Hiring process includes candidate interview and interview with clinical team; no unit manager involvement.
