Registered Nurse - Med/Surg Telemetry

Job Details

• Unit: Med/Surg Telemetry
• Shift: 3x12-hour shifts only (Day/Night rotating shifts: 7pm-7:30am / 7am-7:30pm)
• Shifts may be rotated as needed to meet hospital operational needs.
• Must work at least every other holiday.

Requirements

• Minimum 18 months of permanent experience in the specialty prior to travel assignment.
• Minimum 18 months of recent Med/Surg or Telemetry experience (travel experience accepted).
• Must have a permanent Ohio nursing license or a compact state license in hand.
• Certifications required:

  • AHA BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification
• Pass ECG rhythm recognition test and SafeMedicate test during orientation.

Orientation & Testing

• Orientation includes ECG rhythm recognition and SafeMedicate testing; passing scores required.
• Pass/Fail testing (EKG/Medication) required for all bedside RNs (except OR). Retakes available after 1 week if needed.
• Online training modules must be completed prior to start; these are high priority and cannot be delayed.
• Modules must be completed on a computer using Google Chrome; video must be watched before testing.

Background & Compliance

• Government-issued photo ID required and must be carried on assignment.
• Background check required prior to start, including:

  • FCRA compliant 7-year search
  • SSN trace, counties, states, nationwide, sex offender, OFAC, FACIS Level 3, education verification
• Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required.
• Fingerprinting (BCI and FBI) required within 48 hours of signed contract and updated annually.
• Fingerprints must be completed under code 4723.09 (Nursing).
• Candidates can start with fingerprint results pending if prints are completed prior to start.
• Fingerprinting also conducted onsite at the facility.

Health & Immunization Requirements

• Physical exam within 1 year of start, including Snellen eye exam (for candidates signing 4/11/2025 or later).
• Fit mask test (3M N95 1860 or 1870+) within 12 months, updated annually. PAPRs approved case-by-case.
• Immunizations required:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (every 10 years)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months (annual updates required)
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) - 2 vaccines or positive titer; booster if titers negative/equivocal
  • Hepatitis B (titer, series, or declination)
  • Varicella - 2 vaccines or positive titer; booster if titers negative/equivocal
  • Seasonal flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption (declinations not accepted)
• Drug screening: Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months, updated annually (instant drug screens not accepted).

Documentation & Verification

• Employment application must include 3 years prior work history with at least 2 years clinical acute care experience in a similar area.
• Two professional references required from employment within one year of start (manager, supervisor, charge nurse, or director).
• State license primary source verification and NURSYS verification required within 30 days of start.
• Unit-specific competency exam required within 12 months of start and updated annually.
• Annual skills checklist required.

Additional Notes

• Candidates must carry government-issued photo ID at all times on assignment.
• Candidates returning to the facility after a gap of less than 6 months may have some orientation/testing exemptions.
• Modules and onboarding typically take multiple days and must be completed before clearance to start.
• Facility uses Qualivis – Lotus for submitting hours worked.
