Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - BMT Unit

Location: Aurora, Colorado
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Unit & Patient Population

  • 36-bed Blood and Marrow Transplant (BMT) unit, expanding soon to 51 beds
  • Caring for patients with blood cancers receiving chemotherapy, biotherapies, and cellular therapies such as stem cell transplants and CAR-T therapy
  • Patient care ratio: 3-4 patients per nurse
  • Charting system: Epic
  • Scrub color: Navy
  • Rotating shifts on various days of the week
  • Weekend work required as per unit needs
  • No on-call requirement
  • Floating within scope to similar units may be required

Experience & Certification Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of acute care experience in BMT or hematology/oncology (highest required years of experience)
  • First-time travel nurses accepted if they meet experience requirements
  • Certifications required:
    • AHA Basic Life Support (BLS)
    • Colorado or Compact RN License
    • Oncology certification (ONC)

Time Off & Scheduling

  • Maximum of 10 Return to Office (RTO) days approved
  • RTO not allowed during specific blackout periods in 2026 (March 14-21, May 8-11, May 21-27, June 28-July 9)
  • Flexibility may be considered for harder-to-fill positions

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • I9 or attestation
  • Driver’s License/State ID (clear copies front/back)
  • E-Verify or attestation
  • Proof of legal name change if applicable
  • Background checks including:
    • 7-year background check within 60 days of start (includes SSN trace, Colorado state checks, education verification, sex offender search, sanctions list, etc.)
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 60 days of start
  • Education verification (accredited nursing school required)
  • State license verification (Colorado RN license required)
  • NURSYS verification within 60 days of start
  • References: 2 from last 2 years, including one from last year, from charge RN, manager, or supervisor
  • Employment application and work history verification covering last 3 years with explanations for gaps over 30 days
  • Skills checklist annually

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, DO, NP, or PA
  • Fit mask test within 12 months of start, updated annually (specific 3M masks required)
  • Immunizations and titers:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap within 10 years or signed declination
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, updated annually
    • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: positive titers or vaccinations required
    • Hepatitis B: positive titer, vaccine series, or declination required
    • Varicella: positive titer or vaccinations required
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or facility-specific exemption during flu season
    • COVID vaccine documentation or signed declination (acceptable vaccines: AstraZeneca, Pfizer, Moderna)
  • Drug testing within 30 days of start and updated annually
  • Color blind exam (Ishihara test) required prior to start; online testing not accepted for new candidates

Competency Exams (Required within 1 year of start and updated annually)

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam
  • Competency Exam (minimum 80% score)
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (for ICU, Med/Surg, Tele, Stepdown, PCU, ER, Neuro ICU, etc.)
  • Core Part I, II, III (not required for non-direct patient care roles)
  • OSHA Mandatory training (minimum 80% score)

Additional Notes

  • Floating between like units may be required to meet facility needs
  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position
  • Weekend shifts are required based on unit needs
