Job Opportunity: Respiratory Therapist - PICU
Location: Portland, Oregon
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
As a Pediatric Respiratory Care Practitioner, you will provide bedside respiratory care in the NICU, PICU, emergency department, and pediatric & adult acute/intermediate care wards. Responsibilities include therapeutic interventions (airway management, ventilator management, newborn resuscitation, CPR), diagnostic procedures (arterial blood sampling, spirometry, ventilatory parameters), and age-specific communication and care. You will also assist and train other respiratory therapists and healthcare team members.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Respiratory Therapist license in Oregon
- Minimum 1.5 years of Respiratory Therapist experience
- Respiratory Therapist experience within the last year
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
Certifications and Licenses
- BLS (AHA provider only; traditional or Heartcode Complete)
- RRT license (Primary source verification within 60 days prior to start)
- ACLS, PALS, and NRP certifications are recommended but not explicitly required for this role
- Must maintain competency with respiratory care equipment and modalities
Compliance and Background Requirements
- Valid government-issued photo ID required on first day
- Background check within 6 months prior to start, including education and work history verification, national sex offender search, EPLS/GSA/SAM, and HHS/OIG checks
- Drug screening: Negative 10-panel with methamphetamines listed, within 3 months prior to start
- Two professional references from managers or supervisors within the last 24 months required
- Employment application must include at least 7 years of work history with city and state for each position
- Facility-specific compliance documents and policies must be reviewed and signed prior to start
- Physical exam and fit mask testing required within one year prior to start
- Immunizations and/or proof of immunity required for:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (or signed declination)
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (immune titer, vaccines, or declination)
- Hepatitis B (full vaccine series, immune titer, or declination)
- Varicella (immune titer, vaccines, or declination)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 12 months prior to start, plus TB questionnaire
Additional Information
- No on-call duties
- Must complete all required competency testing and in-services
- Must demonstrate understanding of current and new care modalities and equipment
- Must chart and charge for all services per policy
- Facility requires full availability for compliance needs up until start date
- Professional appearance policy must be reviewed and signed
- Candidates must complete required online training modules prior to badge issuance (specific to role)

- Pediatric and adult acute/intermediate care settings including PICU, NICU, and emergency department
