Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical
Location: Florence, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Shift: Day, 4 shifts of 12 hours each (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM)
- Patient Ratio: Typically 1:6; may flex to 1:7 during unplanned absences
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- On-Call: Yes, as needed for low census
- Floating: Required to float within scope to like units or sister facilities
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in South Carolina
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum 1 year of Medical Surgical nursing experience within the last year
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC)
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
Scheduling & Work Conditions
- Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off 1 shift every 2 weeks

Health & Compliance Requirements
- Background Checks:
- Annual comprehensive background check including SSN trace, state and national criminal checks, sex offender registry, and FACIS 3
- International background checks if applicable
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
- Health Screenings & Immunizations:
- Physical exam updated annually
- Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold within 90 days) or chest X-ray if positive
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap within 10 years or declination form
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines; boosters if low titer
- Hepatitis B: Titer, vaccine series, or declination form
- Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines; boosters if low titer
- Flu vaccine required during flu season (Aug 1 – Mar 31) or medical/religious exemption; declinations not accepted
- COVID vaccines highly preferred; declination form required if not vaccinated
- 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start
- Respirator medical clearance annually for patient-facing roles
- References & Work History:
- Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
- Performance evaluation within 12 months of start
- Employment application/resume required
- Competency Exams: Medication/pharmacology and other competency exams as applicable
Documentation & Onboarding Requirements
- Copy of Driver’s License/State ID
- Copy of Social Security Card or SSN verification
- Attestation of work eligibility and completed I-9 form
- Clear, passport-style photo for badge
- Signed assignment acknowledgment, confidentiality agreements, code of conduct, HR policy manual, systems user agreement, and user access request
- Completion of orientation modules and facility-specific training prior to start (approx. 4 hours)
- Upload vaccination and flu documentation into facility system prior to start
- Radiation badge may be required depending on unit assignment (not required for this role)
Additional Notes
- Prior travel experience is not required; first-time travelers are accepted
- Travelers should be aware of potential emergency response assignments during hurricane season (June–November), especially peak months August and September
- Facility allows floating to meet staffing needs within scope of practice
