ICU Registered Nurse (RN) - Night Shift

Location

  • Omaha, Nebraska

Contract Details

  • Duration: 13 weeks
  • Hours: 36 hours per week
  • Shift: 12-hour night shifts (7pm–7am)
  • Scheduling: 6-week schedule managed by a scheduler
  • Weekend Requirement: Every 3rd weekend; 6 weekend shifts required in the 6-week schedule (weekend nights are Fridays and Saturdays)
  • Holiday Requirement: Rotates with permanent staff
  • Floating: May float to Progressive Care Unit (PCU) or MedSurg units

Unit and Patient Care

  • Unit: Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
  • Bed count: 16 beds
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio: Typically 1:2, occasionally 1:3
  • Patient types: Variety of ICU acuity patients including ventilated patients, BIS scoring, targeted temperature management (TTM), and rarely intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP)
  • Drip titration: Required (vasopressors/inotropes, sedatives, heparin, octreotide, insulin)
  • Charge nurse: Present on each shift and takes patient assignments
  • No nurse aides or patient care technicians on the unit
  • eICU support available for 14 rooms

Orientation and Training

  • Orientation includes classroom training plus 2 shifts of 12 hours each on the unit
  • RN candidates must pass a pass/fail exam during orientation with a minimum score of 90% (open book, resources provided)
  • Fingernail policy: Artificial nails are prohibited; refusal to comply results in contract termination

Required Certifications and Licenses

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Valid driver’s license required at submission (used to verify candidate is within 50-mile radius)

Additional Requirements and Notes

  • Candidates must not be currently employed full time, part time, or PRN with any facility associated with a specific large healthcare system within a 50-mile radius
  • Return to work (RTO) required within 7 days or less from contract start; no additional RTO extensions allowed
  • Dress code: Navy blue scrubs
  • Positive attitude and teamwork skills are highly valued

This position is ideal for experienced ICU RNs comfortable with critical care drips, ventilated patients, and working independently without patient care tech support.
