Job Description
- Work in a Cardiac Specialty Unit focused on telemetry patients.
- Patient ratio typically 1:7-8; may use team nursing model with ratios greater than 8.
- Float required; no on-call duties.
- Weekend requirement: every other weekend or 2 weekends per month.
- Travelers requesting time off during holidays will generally not be accommodated (holidays include Valentine’s Day, Easter, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s Day, and specified local breaks).
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Registered Nurse in the specialty.
- Must be able to pass EKG (Dysrhythmia) competency testing before start.
- Licensure: Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Tennessee.
- Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC accepted; must be current and not expiring within 45 days of assignment start.
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required; actual downloaded certificate needed.
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) preferred.
- Competency Exams:
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 12 months prior to start; minimum score 80%.
- Core Competency Exams (Parts I, II, III) with minimum 80% pass rate, updated annually.
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam required.
- Color Blind Testing within 12 months prior to start (Ishihara or online test).
- Must pass EKG testing prior to start date.
Additional Requirements
- Background check completed within 45 days of start date, including 7-year history and alias verification.
- Physical exam within 12 months prior to start, confirming fitness for duty.
- Negative TB test (QGold or Skin Test) within 1 year; chest x-ray if prior positive.
- Drug screening within 45 days of start.
- Immunizations and health documents required:
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer.
- Hepatitis B vaccine series, titer, or declination.
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer.
- Flu vaccine required for starts on or after 9/8/2025 (no declinations accepted; exemptions require documentation).
- Photo for badge with solid background required.
- Employment application with 7-year work history and no unexplained gaps over 30 days.
- Two supervisory references from the past 3 years.
- Unit-specific skills checklist updated within the last year.
