Job Opportunity: Telemetry Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Knoxville, Tennessee
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Unit Description
- Cardiac Specialty Unit
- Patient Ratio: 1:7-8 (may use team nursing model with ratios greater than 8)
- Float required
- No On-Call
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend or 2 weekends per month
Required Experience
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Registered Nurse in the specialty
Required Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC accepted; must be current and valid for at least 45 days after assignment start
- NIHSS (NIH Stroke Scale) Certification - required for all RN candidates; must be the actual downloaded certificate, valid for at least 45 days after start
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - preferred but not mandatory
Required Competencies
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam: Must be completed within 12 months prior to start with a score of 80% or higher (not required for L&D, Psych, LTC, Mother-Baby/Couplet Care/Post Partum, Transitional Care)
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam
- Core Competency Exams (Parts I, II, III) with minimum 80% pass rate, updated annually
- Color Blind Testing (Ishihara test or online) within 12 months prior to start
Additional Requirements
- Must be able to pass EKG testing before the start date
- Travelers requesting time off during holidays will not be accommodated (holidays include Valentine's Day, Local Spring Break, Easter, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Local Fall Break, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day)
- Solid background check required, including 7 years of history and multiple state/federal checks
- Drug testing within 45 days of start, including a comprehensive panel
- Physical exam within 12 months prior to start, confirming fitness for duty
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within required timeframes
- Immunization documentation required (MMR, Hepatitis B, Varicella, Flu vaccine for 2025-26 season, etc.)
- Photo for badge with solid background, no filters or facial piercings
- Employment application with 7-year work history and no unexplained gaps over 30 days
- Two supervisory references from the past 3 years
- Unit-specific skills checklist updated within the last year
License Requirement
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Tennessee (Compact or Single State)
- License verification must be current and valid for at least 45 days after assignment start
Notes
- No prior travel experience explicitly required
- Orientation is bi-weekly
- Local candidates within 75 miles radius considered local
