Registered Nurse - Chemo
Location: Bridgeport, Connecticut
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 12 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: Day shift, 4x12 hour shifts (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM)
- Schedule includes working every other weekend and holidays as needed
- Work setting: Short term acute care hospital, Level II Trauma Center
- Unit requires floating to other MedSurg units as needed
- Charting system: EPIC
- Scrubs color: Royal blue
Required Certifications & Licenses
- Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in Connecticut (Primary Source Verification required within 30 days of start)
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC only
- Chemotherapy certification (ONS/ONCC required)
- NIH Stroke Certification (required for all RNs except Behavioral Health, Case Management, Home Health, OR, Pediatric units, NICU, Labor and Delivery)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or ARC only (check unit requirements)
- Other certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., PALS, NRP, TNCC)
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Connecticut
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum 1 year of Hematology / Oncology experience within the last year
- Chemotherapy certification required
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- NIHSS Stroke Certification
Compliance & Training Requirements
- Background checks including 7-year criminal background, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG within 30 days of start
- Education verification and foreign equivalency evaluation if applicable
- Drug screening: 10 panel drug screen within 12 months of start
- Physical exam within 12 months of start
- Fit mask test within 12 months of start, updated annually (clean shaven required)
- Annual TB questionnaire and acceptable TB test documentation (negative T-Spot, QGold, or 2 PPDs)
- Required immunizations or proof of immunity: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (or declination)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (9/1 - 3/31)
- Various facility-specific training modules and attestations including but not limited to:
- Language Services Training
- CAUTI Education Training (except PICU, NICU, Psychiatry)
- Suicide Risk and Environmental Assessment Training
- Mobile Heartbeat Alarm Module (except ER/ED, Pediatrics, ICU, NICU)
- Stroke Education (except Pediatric specialties and NICU)
- CLABSI Prevention Training
- Preventing Pressure Injury Training
- Patient Transportation with Oxygen Education
- Pyxis ES MedStation Training
- Baxter Pump Interoperability Training
- Patient Bedside Rounding (except OR, Behavioral Health, Ambulatory, ER/ED)
- Ventricular Assist Device Awareness (except certain hospitals)
- AME Blood Administration Module (except Case Managers, Behavioral Health, Home Health)
- New Employee Orientation Module
- 21st Century Cures Act Module (required for RN except Home Health)
- ED Handbook (for ED/ER RNs only)
- eCart Training Module (not required for Pediatric, Periop/OR, Outpatient, Case Managers, Home Health)
- Chaperone Policy Training
- Fire Safety Module (effective 5/4/2026 and forward)
Competency Exams
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (required within 12 months of start, 85% passing score)
- Color Blind Testing (required for all candidates on/after 8/2/2024, 80% passing score)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (required for RNs in Telemetry, MedSurg/Tele, ER/ED, ICU, Progressive Care, Stepdown, PACU, Cath Lab, Labor and Delivery; not required for NICU, Psych/Behavioral Health, Pediatric, Ambulatory)
Additional Requirements
- Employment application with 7-year work history and no gaps greater than 90 days
- Work history verification for last 7 years (attestations not accepted)
- References per standard protocol
- Attestation of prior radiation exposure if applicable to certain units (not typically required for chemo RN)
