Registered Nurse – Emergency Room (Night Shift)

Location: Utica, New York

Job Overview

• Work in a brand new, state-of-the-art Emergency Department (ED) facility with a 68-bed unit including super track, psych, trauma, and pediatrics.
• Level 3 trauma center with comprehensive stroke and regional cardiac centers.
• High acuity unit with patient ratios striving for 1:4 or 1:5, subject to change based on staffing and census.
• All private rooms; occasional hallway beds and results pending areas.
• Support staff includes Patient Care Technicians (PCT), triage and charge RNs, secretaries, respiratory therapists, lab, and critical response RN.
• Medication drips include TNK, Cleviprex, and Level 1 infusion for massive transfusion protocol (MTP).
• Orientation consists of half-day clinical orientation and half-day shadowing on the unit with a nurse.
• Parking available at no charge.

Schedule

• Night shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (18:30 to 7:00).
• Every other weekend required.
• No guaranteed block schedule.

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in New York.
• Minimum 3 years of Emergency Department (ED) experience, including experience within the last year.
• Associate of Science in Nursing or Associate Degree in Nursing.
• Current ACLS certification.
• Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
• Current PALS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
• Current TNCC certification.
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
• Harassment Prevention Training Certificate.
• Prior travel nursing experience.
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system.

Required Documentation & Compliance

• Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID).
• Emergency contact form prior to start.
• Background checks including 7-year work/school history, sex offender registry, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, and education verification.
• Annual harassment prevention training certificate (New York specific).
• Physical exam within 1 year of start date.
• Fit mask test within 1 year and updated annually (specific mask types required).
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year; annual TB questionnaire.
• Immunizations or positive titers required for:

  • Measles (Rubeola)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Hepatitis B (titer, declination, or vaccine series)
  • Varicella (titer, vaccine, or documented chickenpox history)
• Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season.
• Pneumonia vaccination or declination required.
• 9-panel drug screen within 1 year of start.
• Completion of facility-specific online learning modules prior to first shift.
• Photo for badge (headshot on plain background, no head coverings).
• Signed facility-specific job description and welcome packet acknowledgment.
• Medication test/pharmacology competency exam and dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (expires every 3 years) as applicable.
• Two professional references within 3 years (travel, allied, or per diem acute care).

• The ED is a high-volume, high-acuity environment with fluctuating patient ratios.
• Locals may be considered under a local bill rate.
• The unit includes pediatric patients and trauma cases, requiring a broad skill set.
