Job Opportunity: Pathologists Assistant

Location: Newark, New Jersey
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 26 weeks (approximately 6 months)

Job Description

• Schedule: No weekends or holidays required. Block/special scheduling only if approved at booking.
• Will not float outside of the pathology lab.
• Handle 30-50 specimens per day.
• Procedures include Frozen Sections and high complexity specimens such as mastectomy, APRs, limb amputation, nephrectomy, laryngectomy, radical prostatectomy, cystoprostatectomy, thyroidectomy, colectomy, hysterectomy, gastrectomy, etc.
• Experience with cassette labeler, Dragon voice recognition, loading tissue processor, Windows 10, and cryostat.
• EPIC charting system used.
• Dress code: Any color scrubs or smart casual.
• First-time travelers are accepted.

Required Experience and Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of experience as a Pathology Assistant.
• Pathology Assistant experience within the last year.
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system.

Prior Travel Experience

• First-time travelers are accepted; prior travel experience is not required.

Required Documentation & Compliance

• Employment application or resume with 7 years of work history.
• Two references within the last 2 years, including at least one managerial reference.
• Background checks including criminal background, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, and state-specific exclusions.
• Drug screen within 30 days of start.
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray as per facility requirements.
• Physical exam within the last 12 months confirming ability to perform essential job functions and free of communicable disease.
• Respiratory medical clearance and fit testing prior to start.
• Annual influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption.
• Various certifications and competencies as applicable (see below).

Certifications & Competencies (as applicable)

• Basic Life Support (BLS) – Not required for Pathologists Assistant.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – Not required for Pathologists Assistant.
• Other certifications such as Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure (NRP), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Chemotherapy, Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM), and others are not applicable for this role.
• Competency exams including medication/pharmacology, dysrhythmia/EKG, IV therapy/infusion exams are generally not required for this specialty.
• Annual education sign-off and safety manual acknowledgment required.
• Color blindness testing if job tasks require color discrimination.
• Pass/fail testing for clinical knowledge as applicable.

Additional Notes

• Must comply with facility-specific policies including floating policy and annual education requirements.
• Must complete all required documentation and clearances prior to start.
• On-site fit testing is mandatory.
• Dress code is flexible with any color scrubs or smart casual attire.
• No floating outside the pathology lab.

This position offers a focused pathology lab role with no weekend or holiday shifts, suitable for candidates with at least 2 years of experience and appropriate certification. First-time travel healthcare workers are welcome to apply.
