Job Description

Seeking experienced Labor and Delivery nurses for a travel contract in a hospital near Sacramento. Candidates must have a minimum of 2 years of experience in Labor and Delivery.

Required Experience & Certifications

• Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years in Labor and Delivery
  • Must have at least 1 year of LDRP (Labor, Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum) experience; 3 years preferred
  • Candidates with L&D experience only and OR circulating experience are accepted; candidates with only postpartum experience will not be accepted
• Certifications:

  • Active CA RN License
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
  • AWHONN Advanced Fetal Monitoring

Skills & Responsibilities

• Comfortable with Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) at delivery; no in-house pediatric coverage
• Ability to titrate drips such as Pitocin and occasionally insulin
• Must be able to manage Labor 1:2 nurse-to-patient ratio, 1:1 during delivery, and 1:4 for Mother/Baby couplets
• Experience with twin deliveries and preterm patients (35 weeks and above; less than 35 weeks transferred to higher level care)
• Must be able to "catch the baby" (deliver newborns)
• Charge nurse or Nurse Shift Manager present on every shift; charge nurse may take patient assignments if needed
• No CNAs on unit; one OB Tech scheduled each shift
• OB physician in-house 24/7; anesthesia on-call with 20-minute response time (in-house if epidural present)
• Respiratory Therapist attends every delivery and manages respiratory equipment (ventilator, CPAP, bubble CPAP)
• Nurses required to take ACLS; patients receiving general anesthesia recovered in Main PACU
• Use of Fetalink electronic fetal monitoring system

Work Schedule & Requirements

• Weekend shifts: 2 per 4-week schedule (Nights: Friday/Saturday, Days: Saturday/Sunday)
• Holiday shifts rotate with core staff
• May be placed on-call/standby during scheduled shifts; must respond within 30 minutes if called back
• Floating required to other Sacramento facilities
• Scheduling done 4 weeks in advance; 12-hour night shifts every other week

Additional Notes

• Candidates may not have been employed by any facility associated with CommonSpirit (including CHI or Dignity) within the last 12 months
• Two supervisor references required at submission (one within 12 months, one within 3 years)

This position is ideal for RNs with solid Labor and Delivery experience who are comfortable in a fast-paced Family Birthing Center environment and meet the certification and experience requirements.
