Registered Nurse – Progressive Care Unit (Contract)

Location: Hilo, Hawaii
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Summary

Provide primary nursing care in a 15-bed Progressive Care Unit (PCU) consisting of 3 step-down ICU beds and 12 telemetry beds.
Patient ratios: 1:4 in Progressive Care, 1:3 in Step-down ICU.
Scheduled for 36 hours per week after the first week of orientation; no guaranteed hours and no on-call required.
May float to other acute care units including Medical, Surgical/Pediatrics, ICU, and Emergency Room.

Required Qualifications

Valid RN license in Hawaii required by the start of the assignment (travelers without a current license must apply immediately upon offer acceptance).
Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, with at least some experience within the last year.
Acute care experience required.
ACLS certification required.
NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required.
Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required.

Skills and Responsibilities

Primary nursing care delivery.
Telemetry monitoring and telemetry strip reading.
Fingerstick blood sugar testing.
Use of Meditech electronic charting system.
Medication administration via Pyxis system.
Operation of BIPAP and continuous cardiac monitoring equipment.

Additional Information

Must arrive the Thursday before the start date for an employee health appointment on Friday.
Dress code: Scrubs.

It’s always 4 to 1 except hallways you might only have 3. The staff is so kind and welcoming I have nothing bad to say about them. This was my favorite assignment so far
