Registered Nurse - Med Surg

Location: Portsmouth, New Hampshire
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Information

Unit: 3rd Surgical
Number of Beds: 27
Staff: 5-6 RNs and 2-3 LNAs
Shifts:
- Day Shift: Charge RN, RNs, LNAs, Unit Coordinator (Monday-Friday)
- Night Shift: Charge RN, RNs, 2-3 LNAs
Patient Ratios: 5-6 patients per nurse
Equipment: Hoyer lift, Continuous Passive Motion (CPM) machine, Code Cart
Floating Area: Medical Oncology

Job Description

Must have a current Registered Nurse license at time of application
Minimum 2 years of experience in Medical-Surgical nursing in a hospital setting required
Preferred experience includes 2 years in Med Surg, Orthopedics, and Bariatrics
Typical procedures include orthopedic surgeries (knees, hips, shoulder, cervical) and bariatrics
Work collaboratively with team members and maintain a patient-focused approach

Required Certifications

Basic Life Support (BLS)

Schedule

36 hours per week
Approximately 4 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule

Dress Code

No specific scrub color required

Requirements/Qualifications

Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New Hampshire
Minimum 2 years of Medical-Surgical nursing experience, with at least some experience within the last year
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Pros

One of the best group of girls I've ever worked with, both nurses and doctors. The doctors actually treat you like a coworker and not just someone who is way beneath them. I didn't love the hospital itself but the staff made every shift worth it.

Cons

Cost of living was wayyyy too high and the pay was way too low to be able to stay there for more than one contract. I would've kept extending if I could've afforded it. They also use meditech which is TRASH.
