Medical Technologist

Job Overview

  • Specialty: Laboratory
  • Location: Charleston, South Carolina
  • Employment type: Travel/Contract
  • Shift: Nights, 9:00 PM–7:30 AM
  • Schedule: 7 on / 7 off, with weekends and holidays
  • Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
  • On-call: Not required
  • Floating: Does not float between service lines
  • Contract length: 13 weeks

Required Qualifications

  • Medical Technologist experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science degree in Medical Technology or a relevant medical or scientific discipline
  • Chemistry experience
  • 2 years of experience

Preferred Experience

  • Hematology and/or Chemistry experience

Schedule Notes

  • May be assigned to emergency response teams during hurricane season, which runs from June through November

Compliance / Pre-Start Requirements

  • Copy of driver’s license or state ID
  • Copy of Social Security card
  • Work eligibility attestation and completed I-9 on file
  • Annual background check covering all locations lived/worked for the past 7 years
  • Education verification
  • Primary source verification of license/certification
  • 2 clinical references
  • Complete application/resume
  • Skills checklist
  • South Carolina state exclusion list
  • Annual physical exam
  • Fit test within 90 days before start, then annually
  • Tdap within 10 years of start or declination
  • TB test within 90 days of start or TB questionnaire annually
  • Measles, mumps, rubella, varicella, and hepatitis B immunity/vaccination documentation or declination as applicable
  • 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start
  • Flu vaccination documentation or approved exemption during flu season
  • COVID vaccination documentation is highly preferred; declination accepted if not provided
  • Color blind testing
  • Competency exam
  • Medication/pharmacology competency exam as applicable
  • Orientation modules and first-day instructions before start
  • Passport-style badge photo before start

Additional Notes

  • Local candidates are accepted on a case-by-case basis
  • Radius rule applies: 60 miles
  • RTO must be submitted at time of application and is subject to facility approval
  • Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks
