Job Description
- Position: Med/Surg Telemetry Registered Nurse
- Shift: 12-hour rotating shifts (Day/Night)
- Day: 7am - 7:30pm
- Night: 7pm - 7:30am
- Shifts may vary based on hospital operational needs; rotation may be required.
- Must work at least every other holiday.
- Orientation includes ECG rhythm recognition test and SafeMedicate pass/fail testing.
- Hours submission via Qualivis – Lotus system.
Requirements
- Minimum 18 months permanent experience in the specialty prior to travel assignment.
- Minimum 18 months recent Med/Surg or Telemetry experience (travel experience accepted).
- Must hold a permanent Ohio nursing license or a compact state license.
- Certifications required:
- AHA BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) Certification
- Pass ECG rhythm recognition and SafeMedicate tests during orientation.
Certifications & Competencies
- Mandatory Certifications:
- BLS (AHA Instructor or Provider; RQI acceptable)
- ACLS (AHA Instructor or Provider; RQI acceptable)
- NIH Stroke Certification (AHA, Apex, AACME, or Bluecloud only)
- Other Certifications:
- PALS (Preferred for PICU, Pediatric Stepdown, ERPediatric OR)
- NRP (Required for L&D, OB/GYN, NICU)
- TNCC (Preferred, not required for ER)
- Chemotherapy certification (Not required for Oncology)
- Annual acknowledgment of Orientation Safety Manual and Pass/Fail Testing required.
- Unit-specific competency exam required within 12 months of start and updated annually.
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam as applicable.
Licensure & Background Checks
- Ohio BCI/FBI fingerprinting required within 12 months of start and updated annually.
- Background check including FCRA compliant 7-year search, education verification, EPLS/GSA/SAM, and HHS/OIG checks required.
- Fingerprinting must be completed within 48 hours of contract signing; facility will also conduct fingerprinting onsite.
- Primary source verification of state license and NURSYS verification required within 30 days of start.
- Employment application must include 3 years prior work history with at least 2 years clinical practice in acute care and similar specialty.
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, including Snellen eye exam (for candidates signing 4/11/2025 or later).
- Fit mask test (3M N95 1860 small/regular or 1870+) within 12 months of start, updated annually.
- Immunizations/vaccinations required:
- Tdap (every 10 years)
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or positive titer)
- Hepatitis B (titer, series, or declination)
- Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
- Flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption (seasonal requirement)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months of start, updated annually.
- TB questionnaire required annually if history of positive TB.
- Drug screening: Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start, updated annually (instant drug screens not accepted).
Orientation & Training
- Completion of online training modules prior to start is mandatory.
- Modules must be completed on a computer using Google Chrome; cannot be completed on a phone.
- Candidates cannot skip training videos before tests.
- Modules typically take multiple days to complete and must be finished before clearance to start.
- SafeMedicate preparation materials provided for pass/fail exam during orientation.
Additional Notes
- Two professional references required from employment within one year of start (manager, supervisor, charge nurse, or director).
- Candidates must carry a government-issued photo ID during assignment.
- Candidates must be prepared to comply with all facility-specific policies and testing requirements.
- Facility accommodates latex allergies with notification.
- Candidates with religious or medical exemptions for vaccines must submit documentation for approval.
