Registered Nurse Outpatient Oncology

Location: Cincinnati, Ohio
Employment Type: Clinical Nursing
Contract Length: 11 weeks
Shift: Day shift, 8-hour shifts, 4 days per week (typically 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, with some variation in start times)
Hours per Week: 32 hours


Job Summary

  • Interview patients to determine medical problems/conditions and document in EMR for physician review.
  • Obtain and record vital signs including weight; assist physician with patient exams as needed.
  • Explain procedures and treatments to patients to ensure cooperation and reduce apprehension.
  • Manage lipids, proteins, and phone triage of patient concerns.
  • Follow up on physician orders and lab requests; inform patients of test results and prescribed treatments.
  • Provide patient education and document services performed in EMR for billing.
  • Observe and record patient conditions and reactions; notify supervisor or physician of significant changes.
  • Assist physician in clinical care of patients.
  • Document nursing history and physical assessments; initiate individualized patient education plans.
  • Abstract patient records via EMR; occasionally assist with chart prep.
  • Use EMR functions such as tasking, messaging, and disease management.
  • Use Centricity and other software to support nursing functions.
  • Respond to emergency situations following nursing standards and protocols.
  • Maintain crash cart and defibrillator.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio.
  • Minimum of 1 year of oncology nursing experience, with oncology experience within the last year.
  • Infusion experience in oncology required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).

Required Education & Licensure

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (AD or Diploma accepted).
  • Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) by the State Board of Nursing in Ohio.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Preferred Education

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).

Additional Information

  • This position involves direct patient care in an outpatient oncology setting.
  • Prior travel experience is not specified or required.
