Registered Nurse – Cardiac/Pediatric ICU (Travel/Contract)

Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Unit & Patient Details

  • Unit Type: Cardiac Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) with some float to Cardiac ICU
  • Average Daily Census: 21 patients
  • Unit Beds: 32
  • Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:2
  • Patient Diagnoses:
    • Post-operative open heart surgery
    • Single ventricles
    • Complex cardiac anatomy/physiology
    • Heart transplant
    • Heart failure
  • Special Procedures/Unit Details:
    • Invasive cardiac monitoring (CVP, arterial lines, RA lines, etc.)
    • ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation) & CRRT (Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy) exposure or experience preferred
    • Use of vasopressors, cardiac and sedation drips

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Nebraska
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in Cardiac Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (CVPICU), with CVPICU experience within the last year
  • Experience working with pediatric patients
  • Experience in an acute care setting
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association

Required Certifications & Licenses

  • Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in Nebraska
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA only
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA only
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – AHA only

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID)
  • Background checks including:
    • 7-year criminal history check (covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years)
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
    • Education verification (transcript or diploma acceptable)
    • State-specific registry search (Nebraska DHHS Adult & Child Services Registry) within 30 days of start
  • License verifications including NURSYS and state license within 30 days of start
  • National tech certification verification within 30 days of start
  • Competency exams including:
    • Medication/Pharmacology competency test (80% or higher required)
    • Unit competency exam
    • Color blindness test (required for all candidates)

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam completed within 12 months prior to start, by MD, DO, PA, NP, or APRN
  • Fit mask test within 12 months prior to start (specific mask types required)
  • Immunizations and titers:
    • Tdap (Tetanus/Diphtheria/Pertussis) vaccine required
    • Negative TB test (Qgold, Tspot, or 2-step PPD) within 12 months; positive TB requires additional documentation
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: 2 MMR vaccines or positive titer; boosters required for low/equivocal titers; medical or religious exemptions accepted with proper documentation
    • Hepatitis B: Positive titer or completed vaccine series required; no declinations allowed; medical or religious exemptions accepted with documentation
    • Varicella: 2 vaccines, positive titer, or history of disease; boosters required for low/equivocal titers; exemptions accepted with documentation
  • Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen including THC within 12 months prior to start; instant tests accepted
  • Seasonal flu vaccine required for new starts beginning 10/1/2025, or approved exemption (religious, medical, or declination) on file by 11/30/2025

Additional Requirements

  • Two professional references within 2 years of start date
  • Annual skills checklist update required
  • Employment application and verification process as per facility standards
  • Completion of facility-specific forms and compliance documents prior to start date

Notes

  • Prior travel experience is not required for this position
  • Candidates must document any float experience between PICU and Cardiac ICU in their work history
  • This is a travel/contract position with a 13-week assignment length
  • Night shift only, 36 hours per week (3 shifts of 12 hours)
