Registered Nurse (Med/Surg Telemetry) - Cleveland, Ohio

Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)

Job Description

  • Position at a major hospital campus on Med/Surg Telemetry unit.
  • Rotating day/night shifts (7pm-7:30am / 7am-7:30pm). Shifts may vary based on hospital needs.
  • Must work at least every other holiday.
  • Orientation includes ECG rhythm recognition test and SafeMedicate pass/fail testing.
  • Hours submitted via Qualivis – Lotus system.

Requirements

  • Minimum 18 months of permanent experience in Med/Surg Telemetry prior to travel assignment (travel experience accepted).
  • Must hold a permanent Ohio nursing license or a compact state license.
  • Certifications required: AHA BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS).
  • Pass ECG rhythm recognition and SafeMedicate assessments during orientation.
  • Must carry a government-issued photo ID while on assignment.

Certifications & Competencies

  • Required Certifications:
    • ACLS (AHA Instructor or Provider; RQI acceptable)
    • BLS (AHA Instructor or Provider; RQI acceptable)
    • NIH Stroke Certification (AHA, Apex, AACME, or Bluecloud only)
  • Other Certifications:
    • Pass/Fail ECG & Medication Testing (SafeMedicate) during orientation.
    • Annual Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement.
    • State License Verification and NURSYS verification within 30 days of start.
  • Competency Exams:
    • Unit-specific competency exam required within 12 months of start and updated annually.
    • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam as applicable.

Background & Screening

  • Comprehensive background check required prior to start, including:
    • FCRA compliant 7-year search (SSN trace, counties, states, nationwide, sex offender, OFAC, FACIS Level 3, education verification).
    • Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks.
  • Fingerprinting (FBI and BCI) required within 48 hours of contract signing and updated annually.
    • Must be completed under nursing code 4723.09.
    • Facility will conduct additional fingerprinting onsite.
    • Candidates may start with fingerprint results pending if prints are completed prior to start.
  • Education verification required for all candidates.
  • Drug screening: Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start, updated annually (instant drug screens not accepted).

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, including Snellen eye exam (for candidates signing 4/11/2025 or later).
  • Fit mask test (3M N95 1860 or 1870+) within 12 months of start, updated annually.
  • Immunizations/vaccinations required:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (every 10 years)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (annual update required)
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) - 2 vaccines or positive titer; booster if negative/equivocal
    • Varicella - 2 vaccines or positive titer; booster if negative/equivocal
    • Hepatitis B - titer, series, or declination documented
    • Seasonal Flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption (declinations not accepted)
  • TB questionnaire required annually if history of positive TB.
  • Eye exam required annually for new candidates (not required for return candidates with less than 40-day gap).
  • Drug testing within 12 months of start, updated annually.

Employment History & References

  • Must provide 3 years of prior work history including at least 2 years of clinical practice in an acute care setting similar to the assignment.
  • Two professional references required from employment within one year of start (manager, supervisor, charge nurse, or director; co-worker references not accepted).

Orientation & Training

  • Completion of online training modules prior to start is mandatory.
  • Modules must be completed on a computer using Google Chrome.
  • Candidates cannot skip training videos; must watch before testing.
  • Modules typically take multiple days to complete and must be finished before clearance to start.
  • SafeMedicate prep materials provided for pass/fail testing during orientation.
  • Return candidates with less than 6 months gap between contracts may have some orientation/testing exemptions.

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must carry government-issued photo ID during assignment.
  • Must be prepared to work rotating shifts and holidays as required.
  • Facility accommodates latex allergies with notification.
  • Religious and medical exemptions for vaccines are reviewed on a case-by-case basis; declinations are not accepted.
  • Fingerprinting and background checks must be current and compliant with facility standards.

This position is ideal for experienced Med/Surg Telemetry RNs licensed in Ohio or compact states, who are comfortable with rotating shifts and meeting comprehensive credentialing and health requirements.
