Registered Nurse – Medical/Surgical Telemetry Unit

Location: Maryville, Illinois
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Hours per Week: 36

Unit and Patient Population

• Medical unit with 10 private rooms and 1 observation bed
• Telemetry monitoring for up to 4 patients with stable dysrhythmias
• Patient diagnoses include: COVID-19, telemetry patients, post-surgical, medical-surgical, CVA, diabetes, renal disease, COPD, pneumonia, cellulitis
• Surgical patients include orthopedic, genitourinary, gastrointestinal, and general surgery (excludes major neurosurgical and cardiovascular surgeries)
• Adult and geriatric patient population only (no pediatrics)

Required Experience and Skills

• Valid Registered Nurse license in Illinois
• Minimum 2 years of Telemetry nursing experience, including experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Experience in Charge Nurse roles preferred
• Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
• IV insulin protocols
• Pre/post hemodialysis management
• Peripheral line care and management
• PICC line management
• Pre/post neurosurgery care
• Peripheral nerve block catheters
• Chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-Evac)

Certifications and Licensure

• ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
• BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
• PALS certification issued by the American Heart Association

Equipment and Systems

• Medication system: Pyxis
• Communication system: SBAR
• Special equipment: Safe patient handling equipment, bladder scanner

Required Documentation and Compliance

• Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID)
• Emergency contact form prior to start
• Background checks within 1 year, including SS trace, county, nationwide, sex offender, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG
• Education verification (transcript or diploma acceptable)
• Illinois Adult Abuse Registry Search (can pend at start)
• Physical exam within 1 year of start
• Fit mask testing within 12 months (specific mask types required)
• Immunizations and titers:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap within 10 years
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) proof or declination as per birth year and policy
  • Hepatitis B titer, declination, or vaccine series
  • Varicella titer, vaccine, or history of chickenpox
• 9-panel drug screen within 1 year
• COVID-19 exemptions allowed (medical and religious)
• Two professional references within 2 years
• Resume required
• 7 years of work history verification (attestations allowed after 3 attempts)
• Annual skills checklist and competency exams (medication/pharmacology)

Additional Notes

• Scrubs color: Navy blue
• No pediatric patients on this unit
• Flu vaccination is strongly recommended but not required
