Registered Nurse (MS/Tele) - Travel/Contract
Location: Lafayette, Indiana
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Overview
- Work on a mixed acuity unit caring for medical patients with some progressive care (PCU) level patients.
- Unit specialties include oncology, stroke, cardiac, gastrointestinal, and pulmonary care.
- Patient ratios: Multiple Sclerosis (MS) patients 1:5-6, PCU patients 1:3-4.
- Care for unstable stroke patients and those requiring BiPAP.
- Administer drips including Cardizem, Amiodarone, Insulin, and Lasix.
- Must have solid neurological nursing experience.
- Accepting RNs with MS/Telemetry or PCU experience.
- Shift options: 3 or 4 shifts per week, 12 hours each (day shift 6:00 AM - 6:30 PM).
- Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays during the contract.
- Locals are not accepted for this position.
Required Certifications & Licenses
- Indiana RN license must be active and in hand prior to start (no pending licenses accepted).
- ACLS (American Heart Association only; RQI acceptable).
- BLS (American Heart Association only; RQI acceptable).
- NIH Stroke Scale Certification.
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Indiana.
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing.
- Minimum of 1 year of Med Surg / Telemetry experience within the last year.
- Solid neurology experience.
- ACLS certification.
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
- Experience with Cardizem drip.
- Experience with Insulin drip.
- Experience with post heart catheterization care.
- Experience with post pacemaker care.
Facility & Work Environment
- Short-term acute care hospital with 194 staffed beds.
- Charting system: Cerner.
- Free parking available.
- Dress code: red scrub tops and black bottoms.
Pre-Screening Requirements
Candidates must confirm experience with:
- Cardizem drip
- Amiodarone drip
- Lasix drip
- Insulin drip
- Post Heart Catheterization care
- Post Pacemaker care
Background & Compliance Requirements
- Background check within 90 days of start, including 7 years of residence/work history, SSN trace, county/state/national checks, and education verification.
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start.
- Education verification required; official transcript or diploma must indicate degree and graduation date.
- Minimum of 2 professional references from recent employment verified within 2 years; references must be from charge nurses, managers, supervisors, or higher.
- Current employment application with full work history and explanations for gaps of 30+ days.
- Skills checklist completed within 12 months and updated annually.
Health & Safety Requirements
- Physical exam within 12 months of start.
- Fit mask test within 12 months (N95 or approved respirators). On-site fit testing available only with prior approval; some locations do not allow on-site fit testing.
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months (amphetamines, marijuana, cocaine, opiates, PCP).
- Immunizations/vaccinations required:
- Rubeola (Measles): positive titer or 2 vaccines (no declinations accepted).
- Mumps: positive titer or 2 vaccines (no declinations accepted).
- Rubella: positive titer or 2 vaccines (no declinations accepted).
- Varicella: positive titer or 2 vaccines (no declinations accepted; history not accepted).
- Hepatitis B: series, titer, or signed declination required.
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap: strongly recommended but not required.
- Tuberculosis screening within 1 year (PPD, QuantiFERON-TB Gold, or T-SPOT). If positive, chest x-ray within 2 years required.
- Annual TB questionnaire.
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required for flu season (9/30 - 3/31). Declinations not accepted.
Competency Requirements
- Medication test/pharmacology competency exam required.
- Unit competency exam required.
- Color blindness testing (Ishihara or equivalent) with 100% minimum score required.
Additional Notes
- Valid driver’s license or passport required as identification.
- Must complete facility-specific compliance and confidentiality forms prior to start.
- HIPAA acknowledgment required annually.
- Must complete orientation and safety manual acknowledgments.
