ICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job – Metairie, Louisiana

Position Overview

• Specialty: Registered Nurse (ICU)
• Employment Type: Travel/Contract
• Location: Metairie, Louisiana
• Shift: Day shift, 4 shifts per 4-week schedule (4 x 12-hour shifts, 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM)
• Hours per week: 48
• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Patient Ratio: Typically 1:2, may flex to 1:3; occasional float to MS/PCU units with 1:4 ratio
• Float Requirements: Must float to all ICUs and may float to Emergency Department (ED) or Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) to care for ICU patients
• Weekends: 4 weekend shifts required per 4-week schedule
• Call: Not required

Job Responsibilities

• Perform lab sticks, EKGs, and line starts independently
• Care for patients including those under isolation precautions (including COVID-19 patients)
• Use and manage equipment such as:

  • Alaris IV Pumps
  • CADD PCA pumps
  • Servo I ventilators
  • Fresenius CRRT Dialysis machines
  • Edwards Lifesciences cardiac monitors
  • Medtronic EVD Management Systems
  • Arctic Sun TMS
  • GE Monitors
  • Hill Rom Beds
  • Pyxis Medication Station
  • Veratron Bladder Scanner

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Louisiana
• Minimum 2 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Current ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification
• Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
• CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) certification
• NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system
• Valid Driver's License

Competency & Testing Requirements

• Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (within 12 months, updated annually, minimum 80% score)
• Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (within 12 months, updated annually, minimum 80% score)
• Core Competency Exams Part I, II, and III (updated annually)

Health & Immunization Requirements

• Physical exam (within 12 months of start)
• Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years (declinations accepted with appropriate documentation)
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray per current guidelines (Qgold/Tspot or 2-step skin test within 3 months of start)
• Annual TB questionnaire
• MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): 2 vaccines or positive titer; boosters required if titer low
• Hepatitis B series, titer, or declination (declinations must be signed within 12 months of start)
• Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer; boosters required if titer low
• Seasonal Flu vaccination/documentation required during flu season (Oct 1 – Mar 31); exemptions and declinations accepted with proper forms
• Drug screening within 30 days of start (10-panel or expanded panel depending on hire date)

Background & Documentation Requirements

• Government-issued photo ID matching candidate documentation
• Background check within 6 months covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years; must include social security trace, county, nationwide, sex offender, federal checks; updated annually
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
• Employment application with 7 years of work history, no gaps over 30 days

Additional Information

• Return to Office (RTO) limited to 5 days total during contract
• Facility-specific policies and appearance standards apply
• Must be able to work with isolation patients, including COVID-19 positive cases

This position is ideal for experienced ICU RNs comfortable with a fast-paced critical care environment, flexible floating assignments, and working weekends.
