Job Opportunity: Emergency Room Registered Nurse

Location: Utica, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Work in a brand new, state-of-the-art Emergency Department facility near downtown with local amenities.
  • Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (10:30 AM to 11:00 PM).
  • Patient ratios may vary due to high patient volume; expect ratios from 1:4 up to 1:5 or more during surge periods.
  • Must be willing to float to other units as needed.
  • Electronic Health Record system: Epic (required proficiency).

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York State.
  • Minimum 3 years of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience, including experience within the last year.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Certifications issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross:
    • Basic Life Support (BLS)
    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
    • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification.
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
  • Proficiency and experience with Epic Electronic Health Record system.

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID).
  • Background checks including 7-year history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, and HHS/OIG (annual updates required).
  • Education verification and Florida Education Audit Confirmation (for RN/LPN only).
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start date.
  • Fit mask test within 1 year and updated annually (specific N95 masks required).
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (PPD, Quantiferon Gold accepted; Tspot not accepted).
  • Immunizations or proof of immunity:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (titer, declination, or vaccine series)
    • Varicella (chickenpox)
    • Seasonal Flu vaccination or declination (required during flu season)
    • Pneumonia vaccination or declination
  • Drug screening: 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start.
  • Professional references:
    • 2 references for travel, allied, or per diem acute care roles (within 3 years).
    • 1 reference for per diem non-acute care roles.

Competency Requirements

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (minimum 80% score or meet Angoff score).
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (required for ER staff; expires every 3 years).
  • Color blindness testing (one-time, prior to start).
  • Completion of facility-specific online learning modules before first shift.

Additional Notes

  • All candidates must review and sign facility-specific job description and welcome packet acknowledgments.
  • Photo for badge must be a professional headshot (shoulders up, plain background, no head coverings).
  • Pneumococcal declination forms required if vaccine is declined.
  • Due to patient volume, flexibility and adaptability in patient assignments are essential.
