Registered Nurse - Medical Surgical

Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

• Patient ratio: 1:5 to 1:6
• Med Surg background required
• Experience with post-surgical patients, especially orthopedic, is highly beneficial
• Cerner electronic health record system experience is required
• Orientation provided twice monthly
• Float requirements as needed to surgical, neuro, and intermediate units (may take med surg level patients)
• Adult/geriatric medical surgical patient population
• Common diagnoses include COPD exacerbation, GI bleed, diabetic complications, wound care, pancreatitis, sickle cell crisis, end-of-life care/hospice, falls, weakness, sepsis, and infection
• Busy floor environment requiring team players and strong patient advocates

Shift & Hours

• Weekly guaranteed hours: 36
• Weekend hours: every other weekend
• No call requirements

Unit Information

• Number of beds: 18
• Equipment used: Baxter IV pumps, SCD machines, Kangaroo feeding pumps, PCA pumps

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in North Carolina
• Minimum 2 years of medical surgical nursing experience, including experience within the last year
• Experience with post-surgical patients
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Experience with Cerner electronic health record system

Preferred Qualifications

• Charge nurse experience

• Dress code: any scrub color acceptable
• Must be able to keep up with a busy floor environment
