Registered Nurse (RN) - Operating Room (OR)

Location: Dallas, Texas
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Unit Information

  • Unit: Main Operating Room (OR) and OR Anesthesia Techs
  • Number of Beds: 30 ORs + 3 Lithotripsy Suites
  • Staff on Day Shift: 1 RN charge nurse, ~30 RNs, ~25 Certified Surgical Technologists (CSTs), ~5 Patient Care Technicians (PCTs), ~5 Anesthesia Techs
  • Staff on Night Shift: 1 RN charge nurse, 1 CST
  • Patient Ratio: 1:1
  • Equipment Used: DaVinci Robot, Trumpf bed, Mako Robot, Rosa Robot, Ligasure, Erbe, Novasure, Myosure, Truclear, Neptune, Harmonic, Force Triad, FT10, Storz Video, orthopedic equipment and beds, drills
  • Electronic Medical Record (EMR) System: Meditech

Typical Procedures

  • General, Gynecological, and Urological Surgery (open and robotic)
  • Orthopedic Surgery (excluding spine)
  • Plastic Surgery
  • Pediatric General and Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery

Schedule & Shift Details

  • Hours per week: 36
  • Shift times: 6:30 AM – 5:00 PM
  • Call Teams: Neuro, Transplant, or General Surgery (number of shifts depends on team)
  • Call is required unless working weekend or night shifts
  • Must assist with holiday coverage when OR is closed (Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s)

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Texas
  • Minimum 2 years of Operating Room (OR) experience, including experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • ACLS certification
  • BLS certification

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in Neurosurgery
  • Experience in Transplant surgery

Dress Code

  • RN Scrubs: Royal blue
  • CST & PCT Scrubs: Seal blue (purchased or hospital provided)

  • Patient care ratio is 1:1, indicating a high level of patient monitoring and involvement
  • The unit uses advanced robotic surgical equipment, so familiarity with these technologies is important
  • The role requires participation in call and holiday coverage, reflecting the need for flexibility in scheduling
