Travel RN Opportunity – Cardiac Telemetry

Location: Kansas City, Missouri
Employment Type: Travel


Unit Overview

  • Unit: 4 Central Cardiac Telemetry
  • Beds: 29
  • Patient Ratio: 1:4
  • Staffing: Charge Nurse, Unit Secretary, Patient Care Technicians (PCTs)
  • Equipment:
    • Alaris IV Pumps
    • SCD machines
    • Hill Rom beds
    • Dinamap monitors in each room
    • Welch Allen Vital Machines (3)
    • Wound Vacs
    • Temporary Pacemakers
    • Telemetry monitor
    • EKG Machine
    • Bladder Scanner
    • Doppler
    • Imobile communication devices (iPhone-based texting and calls for team communication and real-time lab results)
  • Documentation System: Meditech

Schedule & Policies

  • Full-time hours required
  • Must work 3 weekend shifts per scheduling period
  • Floating to other areas allowed if competency demonstrated
  • Dress Code: Navy blue scrubs (black scrub pants allowed with navy blue top)

Patient Care & Experience

  • Align with patient experience goals:
    • Treat patients with courtesy and respect
    • Respond promptly to call lights using patients’ preferred names
    • Make personal connections
    • Involve patients in bedside shift reports
    • Teach patients how to use the nurse call phone
    • Always ask if anything else is needed before leaving the room

Required Skills & Experience

  • Cardiac Telemetry or PCU/ICU experience required
  • Ability to read and interpret EKGs and telemetry strips
  • Experience with post-cardiac procedural care including:
    • Ablations
    • Cardiac catheterizations
    • Post Op Day 1 Open Heart
    • Permanent Pacemaker placements
  • Ability to administer and titrate IV medications such as:
    • Insulin
    • Cardizem
    • Cardene
    • Amiodarone

Procedures Performed on Unit

  • IV insertions
  • Nasogastric tube (NGT) placement and maintenance
  • Chest tube maintenance
  • Temporary pacemaker care
  • Foley catheter insertions

Certifications Required

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
