Position Details

Unit Information

• Unit: 4 Central Cardiac Telemetry
• Number of Beds: 29
• Patient Ratios: 1:4
• Staffing: Charge Nurse, Unit Secretary, Patient Care Technicians (PCTs)
• Equipment:

  • Alaris IV Pumps
  • SCD machines
  • Hill Rom beds
  • Dinamap monitors in each room
  • Welch Allen Vital Machines
  • Wound Vacs
  • Temporary Pacemakers
  • Telemetry monitor
  • EKG Machine
  • Bladder Scanner
  • Doppler
  • Imobile communication device (iPhone-based for team communication and real-time lab results)
• Documentation System: Meditech

Scheduling & Work Environment

• Full-time hours required, including 3 weekend shifts per scheduling period
• Floating to other areas allowed if competency demonstrated
• Fast-paced environment with a family-like atmosphere
• Tenured and new staff work together
• Many travelers have transitioned to full-time employees

Required Certifications

• ACLS
• BLS
• NIHSS

Required Experience & Skills

• Minimum 2 years of RN experience in specialty
• Cardiac Telemetry or PCU/ICU experience required
• Ability to read and interpret EKGs and telemetry strips
• Experience with post-cardiac procedural care including:

  • Ablations
  • Cardiac catheterizations
  • Post Op Day 1 Open Heart
  • Permanent Pacemaker placements
• Ability to administer and titrate IV medications such as insulin, Cardizem, Cardene, and Amiodarone

Procedures Performed on Unit

• IV insertions
• NGT placement and maintenance
• Chest Tube maintenance
• Temporary Pacemakers
• Foley insertions

Patient Care Expectations

• Align with patient experience goals by:

  • Treating every patient with courtesy and respect
  • Responding promptly to call lights using patients’ preferred names
  • Making personal connections
  • Involving patients in bedside shift reports
  • Teaching patients how to use the phone to call nurse directly
  • Always asking if there is anything else needed before leaving the room

Dress Code

• Navy Blue scrubs required
• Black scrub pants allowed with Navy Blue top

• Unit awarded “Get With the Guidelines-Heart Failure GOLD PLUS with Honor Roll” by AHA
