Physical Therapist - Therapy Acute

Location: Urbana, Illinois

Job Summary

• Evaluate and treat patients of all ages, modifying plans of care as needed.
• Serve as a clinical resource and role model for staff and students.
• Design and adjust patient care plans integrating goals, treatment, outcomes, and discharge planning.
• Educate patients, families, caregivers, students, and healthcare providers.
• Perform examinations using reliable and valid methods relevant to patient complaints.
• Produce documentation in compliance with clinical policies and regulatory standards.
• Supervise and provide feedback to physical therapy assistants (PTAs) and rehabilitation technicians.
• Collaborate with patients, families, and medical teams throughout rehabilitation.

Patient Population & Setting

• Inpatient acute care setting with a 20-bed inpatient rehab unit.
• Patient caseload includes >50% neurological cases (stroke, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury), lower extremity amputation, multi-trauma, and other acute conditions.
• Approximately 190 patients on acute physical therapy caseload.
• Facility is a Level 1 Trauma center.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Physical Therapist license in Illinois
• BLS issued by American Heart Association
• Bachelor's Degree in Physical Therapy

Experience

• New graduates are considered; no minimum years of experience required.

• Patient evaluation and treatment planning.
• Safe patient transfers and body mechanics.
• Clinical documentation and physical therapy diagnosis.
• Use of standardized outcome measures.
• Screening procedures to assess therapy needs.
• Supervision of support personnel.
• Family training and effective communication with the medical team.
• Ability to modify interventions based on patient behavior and performance.

Work Environment

• Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM schedule.
• Inpatient acute care with a focus on neurological and trauma rehabilitation.

This job does not require prior travel experience.
