Physical Therapist - Therapy Acute
Location: Urbana, Illinois
Employment Type: Clinical Allied Health
Shift: Day
Hours: 8 hours/day, 40 hours/week
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
- Evaluate and treat patients of all ages, modifying plans of care as needed.
- Serve as a clinical resource and role model for staff and students.
- Design and adjust patient care plans integrating goals, treatment, outcomes, and discharge planning.
- Educate patients, families, caregivers, students, and healthcare providers.
- Perform examinations using reliable and valid methods relevant to patient complaints.
- Produce documentation in compliance with clinical policies and regulatory standards.
- Supervise and provide feedback to physical therapy assistants (PTAs) and rehabilitation technicians.
- Collaborate with patients, families, and medical teams throughout rehabilitation.
Patient Population & Setting
- Inpatient acute care setting with a 20-bed inpatient rehab unit.
- Patient caseload includes >50% neurological cases (stroke, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury), lower extremity amputation, multi-trauma, and other acute conditions.
- Approximately 190 patients on acute physical therapy caseload.
- Facility is a Level 1 Trauma center.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Physical Therapist license in Illinois
- BLS issued by American Heart Association
- Bachelor's Degree in Physical Therapy
Experience
- New graduates are considered; no minimum years of experience required.
Key Skills & Competencies
- Patient evaluation and treatment planning.
- Safe patient transfers and body mechanics.
- Clinical documentation and physical therapy diagnosis.
- Use of standardized outcome measures.
- Screening procedures to assess therapy needs.
- Supervision of support personnel.
- Family training and effective communication with the medical team.
- Ability to modify interventions based on patient behavior and performance.
Work Environment
- Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM schedule.
- Inpatient acute care with a focus on neurological and trauma rehabilitation.
This job does not require prior travel experience.
