Cardiovascular Surgical Tech Travel Position

Location: Wausau, Wisconsin
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Variable day shifts, 6:30 AM – 3:00 PM, Monday – Friday
Hours: 40 hours per week guaranteed

Job Overview

• Work primarily in the Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) setting.
• Support 3 cardiothoracic surgeons with approximately 50–60 cases per month.
• Responsible for setting up operative suites, ensuring case carts are fully stocked, scrubbing surgical cases across various specialties, and turning over rooms for multiple procedures daily.
• May be required to float to other central locations as needed.
• On-call requirements include 1 night of call per week, 1 weekend per month, and 1 backup call per week with a 30-minute response time to be ready in the OR. Additional mandated call may occasionally be required.
• Weekend and holiday rotations as needed.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 2+ years of Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) experience.
• Prior travel experience is required.
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Certifications:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
  • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) license required (NBSTSA or NCCT accepted).
  • Certification must be from AHA or ARC.
• Experience with cardiac/thoracic cases and thoracic robotic surgery preferred.

Skills and Attributes

• Efficient in operative suite setup and case cart management.
• Ability to scrub multiple surgical specialties.
• Flexible and motivated, able to perform downtime tasks such as pulling case carts and cleaning.
• Strong work ethic, resilience, and adaptability to change.
• Social and team-oriented.
• Scrub attire color is flexible (any color allowed).

Additional Information

• Facility uses Epic for charting (no direct charting required by traveler).
• Orientation week hours are not guaranteed; regular hours guaranteed except during holidays when the unit is closed.
• Eligible for up to 36 hours of unbillable low census hours; on-call hours count toward this total. Call-back pay applies with a minimum of 2 hours.
• Flu and COVID vaccination required; unvaccinated travelers must wear masks at all times per facility policy. Non-compliance may result in corrective action.
• Contractors must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility.
