Registered Nurse – Intensive Care Unit (Surgical)
Location: Chapel Hill, North Carolina
Employment Type: Clinical Nursing
Shift: Nights
Hours: 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Provide competent clinical nursing care in a hospital setting, coordinating and delivering patient care using the nursing process. Care for patients with complex surgical ICU needs, including physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety aspects.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess patient and family readiness and developmental level for education; use appropriate patient education materials.
- Identify expected patient outcomes and participate in interdisciplinary team discussions to evaluate and revise care plans.
- Perform bedside point of care testing as required.
- Organize and prioritize care based on patient and family needs.
- Consult resources timely for complex care issues, unusual teaching needs, or high-risk discharge planning.
- Participate in unit goals, performance improvement, and promote cost-effective care.
- Promote a safe, clean, and secure hospital environment.
- Recognize and synthesize complex patient data to determine care priorities, including discharge needs.
- Collaborate with patients and families in care planning, addressing cultural and ethnic considerations.
- Engage in professional growth activities and intra/interdepartmental collaboration.
- Stay informed on public policy and regulatory guidelines affecting healthcare.
- Read relevant research journals and contribute ideas for practice improvement.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
- Minimum 1 year of recent Intensive Care Unit (ICU) experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) from an accredited nursing school
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC)
