Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse – Cardiovascular ICU (CVICU)

Unit Description
- 24-bed adult intensive care unit specializing in post-operative care for cardiac, thoracic, and vascular surgery patients.
- Procedures include coronary artery bypass, heart and lung transplantation, heart valve repair, ventricular assist devices, esophageal procedures, carotid re-vascularization, and aneurysm repairs.
- Collaborative work with Advanced Practice and Resident Teams.
- Involvement in patient/family conferences, patient care rounds, referrals, research studies, and quality assurance activities.
Shift Details
- Night shift: 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM
- 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (36 hours/week)
- Weekend work required every weekend
- No call responsibilities
Patient Ratio
- 1 nurse to 2 patients
Floating
- All new employees must float to designated units during low census periods.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Michigan
- Minimum 1 year of Cardiovascular ICU (CVICU) experience within the last year
- One completed travel nursing assignment
- Current ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience
- Experience with Epic electronic medical record system
Health and Safety Requirements
- Flu vaccination mandatory for the 2025-26 flu season (no exemptions allowed; egg-free vaccine available for allergies)
- COVID-19 vaccination not required
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start (instant drug screens not accepted)
- Fit mask test within 1 year of start (specific approved mask models required)
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year; if past positive TB, must have clear chest X-ray within 5 years and complete annual TB questionnaire
- Required immunizations or positive titers for measles, mumps, rubella, hepatitis B, and varicella (boosters required if titers are negative or equivocal)
Background and Documentation
- 7-year background check within 30 days of start, including sex offender and nationwide checks; renew annually
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required prior to start and updated annually
- Government-issued photo ID required
- E-Verify or attestation required
- Two recent professional references from managers or supervisors (charge nurse references not accepted)
- Employment application required
- Facility-specific documents and attestations must be reviewed and signed prior to start (including confidentiality, code of conduct, conflict of interest, sexual harassment policies, and Cornerstone modules)
- Pass/fail competency testing on EKG and medication required upon orientation arrival (two attempts allowed)
- Orientation paperwork must be completed and submitted promptly during first day

- Orientation pay rate applies for the first week (not included here)
- Badge and pager return required at assignment end to avoid fees
- New ID management system requires uploading multiple forms of ID before starting assignment
- Candidates must review an EKG study guide prior to start to prepare for competency testing
