Registered Nurse (MS/Tele) - Travel/Contract Position
Location: Charlottesville, Virginia
Unit: 27-bed General Medicine Unit
Shift: Nights (4 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Schedule: Every other weekend; 36 or 48 hours available; up to 40 hours approved for time off (except Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day)
Unit & Patient Population
- General Medicine unit caring for patients with conditions involving:
- Respiratory
- Endocrine
- Cardiac
- Immune/Infectious Disease
- Renal systems
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Virginia
- Minimum of 1 year of Med Surg / Telemetry nursing experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Orientation & Competency Requirements
- Pass/Fail Cardiac Rhythm Assessment required during orientation for adult inpatient RN positions

Certifications (as applicable)
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – required
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – preferred
- Other certifications (PALS, NRP, TNCC, CHEMO, NIH Stroke, CPI, EFM) may be required depending on unit assignment but not specified for this role
Background & Compliance Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check within 60 days of start, updated annually
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated every 30 days
- Education verification: BSN preferred; ASN required if BSN not held
- Drug screening: 10-panel including marijuana and fentanyl, within 2 months of start and updated annually
- Physical exam within 12 months of start attesting ability to meet job demands
- Immunizations and titers required with documentation including at least 2 patient identifiers:
- Tdap (no exemptions allowed)
- 2-step TB test or Qgold (Chest X-ray if positive)
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (2 vaccines or positive titer; no declinations accepted)
- Hepatitis B surface antibody titer (positive required or antigen titer if antibody low/negative)
- Varicella (2 vaccines or titer; declination accepted but will not hold clearance)
- Seasonal flu vaccine required during flu season (no exemptions)
Additional Facility-Specific Requirements
- Completion of various facility-specific forms prior to start (e.g., TB screening, release authorization, traveler compliance)
- Fit testing for patient-facing clinical roles, completed onsite if required
- Fingerprinting required for Behavioral Health candidates only (not applicable here)
- References: Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
- Employment application and skills checklist must be completed and updated annually
Time Off & Scheduling Notes
- Time off can be approved up to 40 hours, excluding major holidays (Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day)
- Schedule includes every other weekend coverage
This position offers a night shift travel contract opportunity on a general medicine telemetry unit requiring RN licensure, Epic experience, and standard clinical certifications with a 13-week commitment.
