- 12 beds Step-Down/Progressive Care Unit
Trauma Level: Level 3
Patient Ratios:
- Intermediate care patients: 1:3
- Critical care patients: 1:2 or 1:1 depending on acuity
Patient Population: Adult, Geriatric
Electronic Health Record (EHR) system: Epic
Equipment includes Impella, Balloon pump, ECMO/Tandem Heart, ceiling lifts, hoyer lifts, sit-to-stand lifts, and extensive safe-patient handling equipment

Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Maine
Minimum 1 year of recent CVICU experience within the last year
Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Certifications: Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Basic Life Support (BLS), and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)

CICU patients: Post-operative care for CABG, AVR, MVR, vascular and endovascular surgery, cardiac interventional services including ECMO, heart failure requiring Impella device support, angioplasty, and stent placement
Step-Down Unit patients: Above diagnoses plus sepsis, respiratory and multi-system failure, diabetic ketoacidosis, encephalopathy, and post-operative general surgical patients requiring higher level of care
