Registered Nurse (Med Surg/IMC/Telemetry) - Night Shift

Location: Marshfield, Wisconsin
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Overview

• Unit Type: Intermediate Care (IMC) / Stepdown, Med Surg with Telemetry
• Beds: 28
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:

  • Day/PM shifts: 1:5
  • Night shifts: 1:5-7 (average 6, must be comfortable with up to 7 patients)
• Patient Population:

  • Up to 75% cardiac patients (pre/post cath, pre-CABG, chest pain, NSTEMI, procedural cardiac cases)
  • Other diagnoses include CHF, COPD, pneumonia, diabetes, dialysis, altered mental status, nephrology, hematology, wounds, and stroke overflow

Required Qualifications

• Current RN license
• Minimum 1 year of experience in Telemetry, IMC, or Stepdown nursing
• Majority of experience must be in cardiac nursing (heavy cardiac unit experience required)
• Experience with titratable drips (insulin, heparin, nitro, diltiazem, lasix) and ability to titrate drips independently
• BLS (AHA) certification required
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required
• Good communication, teamwork, and work ethic
• Prior travel experience preferred but not mandatory

Clinical & Technical Details

• Telemetry monitoring: Telemetry techs monitor patients remotely 24/7; nurses verify rhythms on unit monitors
• Respiratory equipment used: Continuous CPAP & BiPAP, high flow oxygen, vapotherm, nebulizers, chest physiotherapy; no ventilators
• Nurse aides available with ratios:

  • Day/PM: 1:9
  • Night: 1:14 (if fully staffed)
• Charge nurse role includes some patient assignments and supervisory duties

Scheduling & Work Conditions

• Shift Length: 12-hour shifts
• Night shift hours: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM (approximate)
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (Friday, Saturday, Sunday)
• Holiday Requirement: Every other holiday
• No self-scheduling; block scheduling attempts made but not guaranteed
• No on-call or standby requirement for agency staff
• Floating: Staff may float to other Med/Surg floors or other specialty areas as needed, including 1:1 patient observation assignments
• Dress Code: Any color scrubs, clean and professional
• Orientation: One 12-hour day off unit plus one 12-hour shift on unit orientation

Additional Notes

• Clinicians who have previously worked at this facility must have a minimum 6-month gap since last employment to be eligible
• All clinicians must clock in and out at the facility
