Registered Nurse – Cardiac Cath Lab

Location: Rockford, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Days (9-hour shifts, Monday–Friday)
Hours per Week: 36


Job Summary

Provide specialized nursing care in the Cardiac Catheterization Lab, supporting a variety of cardiac and neuro interventional procedures.


Key Responsibilities

  • Work in a department with 5 suites/labs handling approximately:
    • Coronary cases: 5 per day
    • Neuro cases: 1 per day
    • Electrophysiology (EP): 3 per day
    • Interventional Radiology (IR): 16 per day
  • Assist with procedures including STEMI, PCI, diagnostic coronary angiography, structural heart procedures, electrophysiology studies, ablations, device implants, synchronized cardioversions, TEEs, acute stroke/thrombectomy, peripheral vascular interventions, biopsies, drain placements, and pre/post procedural recovery.
  • Collaborate with Cath Lab Techs who scrub and monitor cases.
  • Participate in rotating weekday and weekend call coverage, including holidays if they fall during the contract period.
  • Float within the cath lab department areas: Coronary, Neuro IR, Electrophysiology, Interventional Radiology, and Prep & Recovery.
  • Follow hospital-provided surgical scrub dress code.
  • Complete individualized orientation tailored to previous experience, typically 1–2 days in each procedural area.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Illinois
  • Minimum 2 years of Cardiac Cath Lab experience, including experience within the last year
  • BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • ACLS certification
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Work Environment & Tools

  • Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems: Epic, Change Healthcare (formerly McKesson).
  • Equipment familiarity: Lifepak 20.
  • Manager/Charge Nurse present on each shift.

Scheduling Details

  • Monday through Friday, 9-hour day shifts.
  • One rotating day off each week.
  • Rotating weekday and weekend call based on department staffing needs.
