Respiratory Therapist

Overview

• Location: Butte, Montana
• Schedule: Night shift, 12 hours
• Hours per week: 36
• Contract length: 13 weeks

Role Summary

Provides advanced-level respiratory care to diagnose, evaluate, treat, manage, and control cardiopulmonary deficiencies and abnormalities. Acts as a resource to CRT staff and may be assigned special clinical projects or other duties based on department needs.

Required Qualifications

• Associate degree in respiratory therapy or equivalent from an accredited program
• Valid Respiratory Therapist license in Montana
• Respiratory Therapist (1 year of experience)
• Respiratory Therapist experience within the last year
• Basic Life Support (BLS)
• Health Care Provider Life Support certification
• Ability to interpret arterial blood gases (ABGs)
• Experience with pulmonary function testing (PFTs)

Responsibilities

• Performs, interprets, and evaluates diagnostic testing procedures according to protocol
• Obtains arterial gases
• Oversees and troubleshoots equipment operation for optimal patient care
• Initiates Respiratory Protocol according to department criteria
• Administers medications safely and in a timely manner
• Communicates patient progress to staff, physicians, and other departments
• Maintains awareness of assigned patient condition and makes care recommendations
• Educates patients and families on health promotion, wellness, self-care techniques, and modalities
• Completes documentation and productivity reporting
• Monitors supplies and equipment and reports shortages or broken items
• Participates in quality and patient safety initiatives, departmental meetings, and quality improvement/research activities
• Promotes the profession of Respiratory Care and serves as a resource, consultant, and mentor
• May float to other departments within scope of competency and qualifications
• May be placed on-call during a regularly scheduled shift
