Registered Nurse – Operating Room

Location: Wausau, Wisconsin
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Guaranteed Hours: 40 hours per week

Job Description

• Work on the General Operating Room team with 21 ORs covering multiple specialties.
• Average caseload: 40-60 cases per day (approx. 45 cases).
• Shift schedule: 8-hour variable shifts (0700-1530, 0900-1730, 1100-1930).
• Float to nearby facilities may be required.
• On-call requirement: 6-8 weeknights and 1-2 weekend nights per contract, with a 30-minute response time to be ready in the OR. Call-back minimum pay for 2 hours.
• Weekend and holiday call rotation applies (weekends for call only).
• Must have own vehicle due to on-call responsibilities (no reliance on rideshare services).
• Charting system: Epic preferred.

Required Qualifications

• Wisconsin RN License.
• AHA BLS and ACLS certifications.
• Minimum 5 years of Operating Room experience or at least 1 prior travel assignment in a large facility with comparable OR size (20+ rooms).
• Circulating experience required; scrub experience preferred.
• Da Vinci robotic surgery experience required.
• Trauma Level II experience required.

Preferred Skills and Attributes

• Experience with General Surgery, Gynecology, Urology, Plastic Surgery, ENT, and GI cases is a plus (not all required).
• Flexible, resilient, strong work ethic, able to manage change well.
• Social and team-oriented.
• Willingness to perform downtime tasks as needed.

Additional Information

• Radius rule: Must live outside a 50-mile radius of the facility.
• Contract includes up to 36 hours of low census unbillable hours; travelers may be on call during these hours with call-back pay if called in.
• Guaranteed hours may be reduced during holidays when the unit is closed.
• Flu season policy: Travelers declining flu and COVID vaccinations must wear a mask at all times per facility policy; non-compliance may result in corrective action.
• Scrub color: Any color allowed.
