Job Opportunity: Medical Surgical Registered Nurse (MedSurg RN - Renal)

Location: Florence, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM)
Patient Ratio: 1:6-7
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend, including holiday rotation
On-Call: Not required
Floating: Required to float within scope to other med/surg units as needed


Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in South Carolina
  • Minimum 1 year of MedSurg nursing experience within the last year
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

  • Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks
  • Local Radius: 60 miles (locals not accepted)
  • Charting System: Epic

  • Floating: May be required to float to other med/surg units within the facility

Important Facility Notes

  • Hurricane Season: June through November; all staff may be assigned to emergency response teams during this period. Candidates should avoid confirming new or extension assignments during peak hurricane months (August and September) if this is a concern.

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Identification: Copy of Driver’s License/State ID and Social Security Card required
  • Background Checks:
    • Annual background check covering all locations lived/worked in the past 7 years
    • Includes SSN trace, state and national criminal checks, sex offender registry, FACIS 3, and international searches
  • Employment Verification: Proof of 2 clinical references and performance evaluation dated within 12 months of start
  • Work History Verification: Not required for this facility
  • Education Verification: Not required for this facility
  • Physical Exam: Initial physical exam attesting ability to meet physical demands, updated annually
  • Drug Testing: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests accepted)
  • Respirator Clearance: Annual medical clearance required for respirator use (RespSafety questionnaire)
  • Radiation Badge: Not required for MedSurg RN

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap: Required within 10 years of start or declination form completed
  • TB Testing:
    • 2-step PPD or Quantiferon Gold within 90 days of contract start (T-spot not permitted)
    • If positive, proof of chest X-ray required
  • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; low titer requires 2 boosters 28 days apart
  • Hepatitis B: Titer or vaccine series required; declination form accepted with conditions
  • Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; low titer requires 2 boosters 28 days apart
  • Flu Vaccine: Required during flu season (August 1 – March 31); medical or religious exemptions accepted, but declinations are not accepted
  • COVID-19 Vaccination: Not required but highly preferred; vaccination records must be uploaded or a declination form completed

Certifications & Training Notes

  • Additional Certifications:
    • ACLS may be required depending on unit (AHA or ARC only) – verify with team if applicable
    • PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM, NIH Stroke Certification as required by specific units (verify with team)
  • Competency Exams: Medication and other competency exams required as applicable
  • Orientation: Completion of facility-specific orientation modules and acknowledgment forms required prior to start
  • Photo for Badge: Passport-style photo with solid light background required

Scheduling & Other Considerations

  • Block Scheduling: May be requested but not guaranteed
  • Shift Flexibility: Floating to other med/surg units may be required
  • Guaranteed Hours: Facility may cancel 1 shift every 2 weeks
  • Locals: Not accepted for this assignment
