Registered Nurse - Medical Surgical

Job Description

• Work on a medical-surgical unit in a new building with a positive culture and a welcoming team.
• Patient ratio: 1:5 during the day, 1:6 at night.
• Floating required to 2W (second floor), CDU (Clinical Decision Unit), and ARU (Acute Rehabilitation Unit).
• Telemetry experience preferred but not required.
• First-time travelers are considered depending on experience.
• Kerrville is located in Texas wine country, about 1 hour from San Antonio.

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Texas.
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing.
• Minimum 2 years of medical-surgical nursing experience, including experience within the last year.
• Short stay unit experience.
• Certifications required:

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support).
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale).
• Government-issued photo ID required.
• Must pass a 7-year background check including SS trace, county searches, nationwide sex offender check, and education verification.
• Annual verification of EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG required.
• Negative 10-panel drug screen within 1 year of start.
• Physical exam within 1 year of start.
• Immunization and health requirements (must be completed within 72 hours of contract signing):

  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray as applicable.
  • Vaccinations or documented declinations for TDAP, Hepatitis B, MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella), Varicella, Flu (seasonal), and COVID-19.
• Two professional references within 3 years of start.
• Annual competency exams and skills checklist required.
• Orientation safety manual acknowledgement required annually.

Shift Details

• Night shift, 3 shifts per week.
• 12-hour shifts (18:30 to 7:00).
• Total 36 hours per week.

• Candidate must be kind, compassionate, caring, and a team player.
• Floating to other units is part of the job responsibilities.
• Telemetry experience is preferred but not mandatory.
• First-time travel nurses may be considered based on experience.
