Interventional Radiology Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Winston Salem, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract

Job Overview

  • Work in Interventional Radiology with coverage in Radiology Pre Post Unit (RPPU) as needed.
  • Target workload: 16 cases per day across three IR rooms.
  • Schedule: Monday to Friday, 4 shifts of 10 hours each (7:00 AM – 5:30 PM).
  • Call requirement: On-call availability with 8 call days in a 10-12 week period, including backup and primary call rotations; must be able to arrive at the hospital within 30 minutes. Weekend call is 24 hours (7:00 AM Saturday to 7:00 AM Sunday).
  • No float requirement.
  • Weekends required based on call rotation.
  • Scrubs provided (ceil blue).
  • Orientation: 8-hour unit orientation plus hospital orientation during week one; attendance at classes daily is mandatory.
  • Unit systems used: PYXIS, EPIC, SBAR.
  • Scheduling is manager-driven.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
  • Minimum 2 years of Interventional Radiology nursing experience, with experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Current ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification
  • Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Proficient in Conscious Sedation
  • Experience with Telemetry

Call and Shift Details

  • Call shifts start at the end of the regular shift and last until 7:00 AM.
  • Backup call covers the primary call person during the same hours.
  • Weekend call is 24 hours, rotating between primary and backup.
  • Call may include one holiday during the assignment.
  • If the call person is sick, a fill list is used (rarely).

Patient Population and Unit Details

  • Tertiary care center with complex patient diagnoses.
  • Workload primarily Monday through Friday.
  • No special equipment required beyond standard unit systems.

Orientation and Onboarding

  • 8-hour unit orientation plus hospital orientation in the first week.
  • Must be available for all scheduled classes during orientation week.
  • Photo for badge required immediately after signing contract; must be passport-style with specific guidelines (solid white background, facing forward, holding paper with full name and phone number at stomach level, no head coverings except glasses, business attire).
  • Background checks and education verifications required prior to start.
  • Must complete required facility-specific documents including confidentiality agreement, education roster, tobacco-free campus acknowledgement, and hospital policies.

Compliance and Health Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start; if past positive TB, physical within 30 days and updated annually.
  • Fit testing required (N95 or PAPR training accepted except at certain facilities).
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within required timeframes.
  • Required immunizations or titers with boosters as needed for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Varicella
    • Hepatitis B (facility-specific declination form if titer negative/equivocal)
  • Drug screening within 30 days of start (10-panel, negative result required).
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required; exemptions require mask-wearing on campus.

Testing and Competencies

  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 72 hours of start; must score 82% or higher with up to three attempts allowed.
  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam as applicable.
  • Color blindness testing within 1 year via Relias.

References and Documentation

  • Two professional references within three years required for travel and acute care positions.
  • Employment application must be uploaded.
  • Performance evaluation required if worked with the agency over one year.
  • Skills checklist required as applicable.
