Registered Nurse – MS/Tele Float (Travel/Contract)
Location: Tucson, Arizona
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)

Job Overview
- Float position requiring willingness to work on MS/Telemetry unit and to float to a sister facility (~25 minutes away) with lower acuity patients.
- Unit patient population includes Infectious Disease, Hospice/Palliative Care, Oncology, Cardiac Acute/Med Care, Post-Surgical, Bariatric, Urology, Neurology, and Orthopedics.
- Patient-to-nurse ratio approximately 1:6.
- Weekend coverage required: 12 weekend shifts per contract, every other weekend.
- Open book EKG test required at orientation.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Arizona.
- Minimum 1.5 years of Telemetry nursing experience, with Telemetry experience within the last year.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification.
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement.
Certifications & Competencies
- Basic Life Support (BLS) – AHA or Red Cross only.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – AHA or American Red Cross only.
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification preferred (any accredited CPI or Management of Assaultive Behavior certificate accepted).
- Pass/Fail Testing: EKG assessment required on first day of orientation (passing score 80%+). Failure may lead to remediation or contract review.
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required (passing score 80%+).
- HIPAA competency required, updated annually with passing score 80%+.
Health & Background Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by physician, NP, or PA.
- Fit testing for N95 mask within 1 year of start (PAPR allowed onsite).
- Immunizations and titers required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years; declinations allowed except for select pediatric and maternity units).
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (proof of 2 vaccines or positive titer; no declinations).
- Varicella (proof of 2 vaccines or positive titer; no declinations).
- Hepatitis B (proof of 3 vaccines or positive titer; declinations allowed with signed form).
- Negative TB test (QuantiFERON Gold, Tspot, or PPD) within 3 months of start; if positive, chest x-ray within 1 year showing no active TB.
- Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season (Oct 1 – Apr 30) or approved medical/religious exemption with facility-specific form.
- Drug testing: 12-panel urine drug screen within 30 days of start, must be started within 72 hours of booking.
Documentation & Compliance
- Background checks including 7-year history, Pima County AZ search, OFAC, National Sex Offender, EPLS/GSA/SAM, and HHS/OIG must be completed within 30 days of start.
- Employment application with last 7 years of work history; gaps over 30 days must be explained.
- Two professional references from employment within last 3 years required; one must be supervisory.
- Facility-specific job description and orientation sign-offs required.
- Acknowledgement of pass/fail testing and safety manual required.
Additional Notes
- Candidates must be willing to float between units and facilities as needed.
- No local hires or first-time travel nurses accepted for this assignment.
- Orientation includes an open book EKG test and may include remediation if initial testing is failed.
- Weekend coverage every other weekend is mandatory.
This position is ideal for experienced Medical-Surgical/Telemetry RNs comfortable with floating and working night shifts in a diverse patient care environment.
