Registered Nurse – Emergency Room (Night Shift)

Location: Fort Lauderdale, Florida
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

• Emergency Room RN for night shift (3x12 hours, 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM)
• Work every other week (EOW) replacing an existing staff member until 3/13
• Manage Level 1 trauma patients independently in a trauma bay of a 30+ bed Emergency Department (preferably Level A trauma center)
• Nurse-to-patient ratio typically 4:1 or 5:1 depending on assignment area

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Florida
• Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) experience, with at least 1 year within the last 12 months
• Experience working with Level 1 Trauma patients
• Current ACLS and BLS certifications issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) from an accredited institution
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Health and Compliance Requirements

• Government-issued photo ID required on person during hours of service
• Background check within 6 months including all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years; updated annually
• Education verification required; official transcripts or diploma accepted if verification is un-verifiable
• Florida AHCA Level II fingerprinting clearance required prior to start; results must be dated within 30 days of start and renewed every 5 years
• Physical exam within 6 months of start (signed by DO, MD, NP, APRN, or PA) confirming ability to perform job without restrictions; updated annually
• Annual fit mask test required (approved masks: 3M 1860 Regular or 1860 Small only)
• Negative QuantiFERON TB test within 6 months of start (TSPOT and PPD not accepted); chest X-ray accepted if prior positive TB test
• Annual TB questionnaire required
• Immunizations or proof of immunity required for:

  • Rubeola (Measles) – 2 MMR vaccines or positive titer (boosters required if low/equivocal titer)
  • Mumps – 2 MMR vaccines or positive titer (boosters required if low/equivocal titer)
  • Rubella – 2 MMR vaccines or positive titer (boosters required if low/equivocal titer)
  • Hepatitis B – Series, titer, or signed declination (boosters required if low/equivocal titer)
  • Varicella – 2 vaccines, positive titer, or declination (boosters required if low/equivocal titer)
• Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start (instant tests not accepted)
• Seasonal flu vaccination or declination required during flu season (Oct 1 – Mar 31) with documentation deadline of Dec 1

Required Training and Competencies

• Completion of facility-specific online orientation and modules including but not limited to:

  • Privacy Policy, AHCA Affidavit, Demographic Information Sheet
  • Clinical Orientation Module (1-year expiration)
  • Annual Risk Management Course
  • General Compliance & Ethics Training
  • Code of Conduct
  • Comprehensive Emergency Management Education
  • Preventing & Reporting Workplace Harassment
  • ER-specific nursing modules such as Emergency Management, IV Medication Safety, Recognizing Impairment, Stroke Core Measures, and others as applicable
• Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (annual)
• Color Blind Testing (annual, minimum 80% score)
• Skills Checklist (annual)

• Locals within a 60-mile radius considered
• Must carry government-issued photo ID during shifts
• Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position

Shift Details

• Night shift: 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM
• 36 hours per week (3 shifts of 12 hours each)

This position is ideal for experienced Emergency Room Registered Nurses with trauma experience who are comfortable working independently in a high-acuity environment and have current certifications and acute care experience within the last 2 years.
