Job Opportunity: CVOR Registered Nurse
Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (6:00 AM – 6:30 PM)
- On-Call: Yes, 5-8 calls per month including weekends
- Holiday Call: May be required
- Work Environment: Cardiothoracic Operating Room (CVOR)
- Cases: Complex cardiac and general OR cases including CABG, TAVR, LVAD, Impella, Valve surgeries, Ascending/Descending aorta, Heart & Lung Transplants, and vascular cases
- Experience Required: Minimum 2 years as a Registered Nurse in circulating complex cardiac and general OR cases
- First-Time Travelers: Only accepted if they have 5+ years of experience
- Local Radius Rule: 60 miles (locals may be accepted on a case-by-case basis)
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in South Carolina
- Minimum 2 years of CVOR experience, including experience within the last year
- ACLS certification
- BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Ability to circulate complex cardiac cases
- Ability to circulate general OR cases
- Ability to circulate vascular cases

Important Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Background Checks: Must include SSN trace, state and national criminal checks, sex offender registry, FACIS 3, and international searches if applicable
- Education Verification: Required; diploma or transcripts accepted as placeholders if verification is pending
- References: Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
- Employment History: Verification of last 3 clinical employers required
- Photo for Badge: Clear, passport-style photo with solid light background, frontal view, business casual attire, no sunglasses or hats
- Drug Testing: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start
- Fit Mask Test: N95 fit test within 90 days prior to start, renewed annually
- Physical Exam: Initial physical exam updated annually, attesting ability to meet physical demands
- Immunizations and Titers:
- Tdap within 10 years or declination form
- Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days or chest x-ray if positive history
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: Positive titer or vaccination series required; low titers require boosters
- Hepatitis B: Titer, vaccine series, or declination required
- Seasonal Flu Vaccine: Required during flu season (Aug 1 – Mar 31); medical/religious exemptions accepted but no declinations
- COVID-19 Vaccination: Not required but highly preferred; vaccination records must be uploaded or declination form completed
- Competency Exams: Medication/pharmacology and OR competency exams required
- Color Blind Testing: Required prior to start
- Radiation Badge Process: Must be obtained before starting; candidates cannot work without it
- Orientation Modules: Must be completed prior to start; includes HR and facility-specific training (approx. 2 hours)
- Emergency Response: During hurricane season (June-November), all staff may be assigned to emergency response teams
Additional Notes
- Facility may call off traveler for 1 shift per 2-week pay period
- Parking permit available for a fee; additional parking fees may apply outside designated garage
- Candidates with facial hair are encouraged to shave for fit testing or provide their own PAPR device
- Walk-through (temporary) licensure process available for SC RN license under certain conditions, with faster turnaround than permanent licensure
This position is ideal for experienced CVOR RNs comfortable with complex cardiac surgical cases and flexible with on-call and holiday requirements.
